Fantasy Hockey Sleepers - 2012
So who are your sleepers for this season, if indeed there is a season of course?

First few that come to mind are Faulk, Zidlicky, McDonald, Bobrovsky, Boedker, Neuvirth. Guys that for one reason or another will exceed what I expect to be their ADP.

Vokoun seems like a reach. Koivu should be good value there.

I think you got pretty good value out of your D picks for how late you were making them.

Re: Fantasy Hockey Sleepers - 2012
Definitely agree on the D. No idea how you got Koivu, Havalt, and Roy as late as you did. Not really a huge fan of tying up two of your high picks in young guys like Skiner and and Seguin. Can't believe Niemi was there at 107 in a 14 team league, that's mind blowing. On the whole I like your draft from Round 8 to finish more than the first 7 rounds. Too bad there won't be a season, I'd be interested to hear how this team would do.

Re: Fantasy Hockey Sleepers - 2012
Thanks for the input guys. I had a hunch with Seguin and Skinner. I feel like Seguin is ready to bust out and Skinner will have some extra firepower on his team this year. Perhaps they were reaches though at those points in the draft.
Nonetheless, I'm pretty happy with the team. The one guy I was hoping to get was Ekman-Larson. A guy snatched him about just before I was ready to nab him later in the draft.

As a sleeper? This makes me really happy. Picked him up for basically nothing pre-draft in one of my keeper leagues.mikey287 wrote:Six words (or less?). Teemu Hartikainen.

Re: Fantasy Hockey Sleepers - 2012
Would you make this deal?
I'm giving up Niemi, Voracuk, and John Carlson
I'm getting Dubnyk, Backes, and Suter
I have Ryan Miller and Thomas Vokoun as my other goalies

You could probably get better for what you're giving up.

Re: Fantasy Hockey Sleepers - 2012
Would have to know the stats. Assuming PIMs, hits, or both you could probably make an argument that its a trade worth making if you believe that Edmonton is ready to take the next step. That said, its not an argument that I'd champion because I am unsure about Edmonton and you can't be taking a step down in goal in a 14 team league, at least not for the moderate upgrades presented in the rest of the trade. I am a big Voracek fan, so I don't see Backes as providing all that much more value (lower points ceiling) depending on stats. Suter should be a notch above Carlson so long as Green is an Washington.

I traded Tyler Seguin for James Neal. Who won?

Depends on what you need. If you need goals (which are inherently more valuable than assists) than the Neal side probably won. Otherwise it's a coinflip really...Seguin has a higher ceiling, Neal has a higher baseline, IMO.

If you thought enough of Seguin to draft him #23 overall, I'm surprised you'd make this deal. Mikey pretty much hit it. I don't really mind the swap, just surprised to see it considering where you took Seguin.opie22002 wrote:I traded Tyler Seguin for James Neal. Who won?

Re: Fantasy Hockey Sleepers - 2012
Heres my team, 14 team league. G,A,PTS,+/-, PPP. GWG. BLKS,W,L,GAA,Sv%,SO
1. (5) Claude Giroux (Phi - C,RW)
2. (24) Mike Smith (Pho - G)
3. (33) Miikka Kiprusoff (Cgy - G)
4. (52) Jeff Skinner (Car - C,RW)
5. (61) Nicklas Backstrom (Was - C)
6. (80) Alexander Edler (Van - D)
7. (89) Duncan Keith (Chi - D)
8. (108) Christian Ehrhoff (Buf - D)
9. (117) Brent Seabrook (Chi - D)
10. (136) Radim Vrbata (Pho - RW)
11. (145) Teddy Purcell (TB - RW)
12. (164) Adam Henrique (NJ - C)
13. (173) David Perron (StL - LW)
14. (192) Curtis Glencross (Cgy - LW)
15. (201) Sven Baertschi (Cgy - LW)
16. (220) Vladimir Tarasenko (StL - RW)
17. (229) Jiri Hudler (Cgy - LW)
The run on goalies started very early with Lundquist going 6th overall and rinne 10th, quick 12th overall, then Bryzgalov 14, MAF 15, (guy wanted his goalies early I guess). So I grabbed my goalies with the best of the 2nd tier. The minimum is 3GP per week and last year I had to use 3 as I took Varlamov and then had to get Giguere to get starts when he struggled..I wanted to just use 2 goalies this year and I know Smith/Kipper will get a truckload of starts each.
Then I guess I blacked out and took 4 defensemen in a row..oops. So I figured what the hell and grabbed Tarasenko and Baerschi late with the hope that they blow up.. I read Tarasenko will play with McDonald and Steen this season for the Blues and I hope Baerschi is ready..

That's crazy that you got Backstrom after Skinner. I think you just went way too high on Skinner, I don't think he tops out at more than a 30-30 guy.

Re: Fantasy Hockey Sleepers - 2012
Judging by the two draft results posts we've seen in here Skinner is overrated this year. GWG swings it a little in the second league but not much.

Re: Fantasy Hockey Sleepers - 2012
I was suprised backstrom was still there, I guess everyone forgot about him cause of his injury and low points totals..but the people I play with have played for the last 3 years and all know hockey.. Oh well. Skinner I am hoping blows up bigtime on the new 'Canes. I think Hossa was available at the same time as Skinner..I shoulda went with Hossa.
How do I get a KHL league lol..

Those are both good buy-low goalie picks
