I think I read that in Japan they have vending machines where you can pay using your cell phone. Then again, they also have vending machines that sell pornography, beer, liquor, ice, hot pizza, eggs, bowls of instant ramen noodles, flowers, batteries, fresh vegetables, and umbrellas, not to mention they still have cigarette machines all over the place. We are clearing losing—and losing bad—the vending-machine arms race.DudeMan2766 wrote:WHY ARENT VENDING MACHINES SET UP TO TAKE CARDS YET

Credit card vending machines are coming. Many airports have them. I also saw them somewhere else locally but can't think where it was. Might have been Children's Hospital.

Whatever stupid law made Sirius reduce the transmitter power in their radios.
Used to have a Starmate Replay, which Sirius bricked when they sent out an update that it did not support (curiously the older Sportster Replay in my kitchen is still going strong, knock on wood). They replaced it free with a Stratus 6 that some days is borderline unlistenable. My company car is a 2003 Taurus with no aux in and a cassette player that doesn't like the adapter I bought.
Have yet to find a frequency that works reliably all around town. In Canonsburg, my transmitter on the dashboard gets overtaken by Bethany College's 1100 watt blowtorch (which sounds, seriously, like it is broadcast from a tin can and may well be) on 88.1. Some days on the Turnpike between Beaver and Cranberry it fights with a country station from Morgantown on 97.9.

LOL I just recently discovered the 88.1 station. What the hell is that? Sounds like someone playing a radio and holding their phone up to you.

It's terrible, I feel bad for the Bethany students who work on the air. I went to Grove City and our station was on 91.1 which even 20 years ago was a crystal clear pro quality signal.DudeMan2766 wrote:PghSkins wrote:Whatever stupid law made Sirius reduce the transmitter power in their radios.

The music they broadcast thru space to wake astronauts up in the morning sounds better than 88.1.

I am pretty sure this is the proper pronunciation, but it still irritates me when people constantly make sure they pronounce Notre Dame "No-treh Dame" as opposed to "No-terr Dame". Hearing it once isn't bad, but hearing it over and over again I start to fixate on "No-treh".

Heck, it annoys me that a school with a French name is nicknamed the "Fighting Irish."shafnutz05 wrote:I am pretty sure this is the proper pronunciation, but it still irritates me when people constantly make sure they pronounce Notre Dame "No-treh Dame" as opposed to "No-terr Dame". Either name the school in Gaelic or call them the Fighting French.

Re: Your irrational pet peeves
People who don't center their car when they park within the lines. They might be legally parked, but in the end one person gets screwed.
Bonus peeve, or more like an add-on to an earlier peeve with SUVs: when somebody with an oversized SUV has to pull in that compact spot and screw two people out of their spot. I've seen it multiple times above the old Right By Nature garage where an escalade pulled in at an angle and overlapped both lines. Not to the point where they parked at a 45, but it was at a very obvious angle.
