Hasek won the first best-on-best Olympics, did he not? I'm not sure it's fair to say he couldn't handle pressure because he was horrible teams that couldn't score...

For me it's Hasek > Roy > Brodeur. But I also think you can't go wrong with either one.

Definitely agree with this. Brodeur wouldn't make my top-5 for that matter.steelhammer wrote:Hasek by a mile. Then Roy. Then lots of other goalies before Brodeur.

Re: Roy, Brodeur, or Hasek
Didn't they beat Russia 1-0 for the gold? I remember watching that game -- it was the single best game I'd ever seen since game 4 of the 91-92 Stanley Cup Finals (which, I have to say, I told my friends immediately after the game and for quite some time afterwards that if I was a hockey GM, I'd trade for the 'Hawks backup goalie (obviously also Hasek). Despite the score, I thought that was one of the most amazing displays of goaltending I had seen. Pittsburgh was in overdrive and Lemieux & Co could have score 30 that night if not for the Dominik. I still cannot believe the save on Stevens when Mario and him were on the 2 on 1 and Lemiuex drop passed the puck between his legs. Hasek was the only one in the building who saw that one coming).mikey287 wrote:Hasek won the first best-on-best Olympics, did he not? I've always found Sawchuk's shutout record most impressive, given how much more crude goaltending was at the time. He did it in over 200 games less than Brodeur, too.

Goal-scoring in the 50's was also among the lowest levels in history. Sometimes below 5 goals per game. Not to diminish Sawchuk's excellence though, he was exceptional...Mongoose87 wrote:I've always found Sawchuk's shutout record most impressive, given how much more crude goaltending was at the time. Re: Roy, Brodeur, or Hasek
Hasek for sure. He was so good that he didn't necessarily need solid defense in front of him to be awesome, and was awesome for an unmatched amount of time. Not to take anything from the other guys, but Hasek had that extra save in him almost all the time.mikey287 wrote:Hasek. 6 Vezina trophies in 12 NHL seasons. Followed by Roy, clutch as all hell. Followed closely by Brodeur, underrated on all-time scale.

Brodeur > Roy > Hasek
No explanation, just my opinion.

Patrick Roy can't hear your arguments for Hasek because he stuffed two of his rings into his ears for some reason. Also he can't read them because he used the other two to gouge out his eyes.
Actually, come to think of it, I'd take Hasek too.

I'll take Patrick Roy! Temper and thinking he could handle the puck, got him into trouble, but he is it for me.
One game to win a championship in prime age, Roy! ? I wonder how he would do today

I witnessed Roy making Mario look average over and over and over.
