My prediction is that he will fall below this within a couple seasons and at that point he'll be dropped from the top line and his numbers will fall much further. He'll be a 20/20 3rd liner making nearly $5M per season at that point. That's why I think this will ultimately be a bad deal for the Flyers.

It doesn't matter. When the deal starts to look bad they will just deal Hartnell for cap relief. Happens every year...

Sure, but a true 30-30 would likely get more than 5 million, likely more like 6.... so what's your point?

I hate the Flyers as much as the next guy, but i give Holmgren credit. The guy rolls the dice over and over and makes his team better. Except for between the pipes of course. But really, the guy dont sit on his hands hoping "this will be the year". He's aggressive and i applaud that. He'll move Hartnell in a couple of years to some saps like Columbus, and we will all be saying "where are the getting all this cap room ?"

I will fully admit, if he had on a Pens uni, I'd love him.

But he doesn't, and especially have on a Flyer one, I hate him.

I would probably hate Hartnell if all other Pens fans' insanely over the top hatred of him didn't force me to look at him with a straight head. I would really like him to be a Penguin.

I like Hartnell a lot, it's a shame he's a Flyer.

It was even cooler when Letang went after a guy who hasn't fought in ages and tried to SHHHH the crowd again before getting kicked out of an elimination game.

As if I care at all about anyone in a Flyer uniform getting pounded? And this has anything to do with Hartnell? How is that even relevant to this discussion?

you don't care what a guy is like or what he does no matter how stupid as long as he is a valuable member of your team.

True, but I think the point is if Hartnell was a part of this team his whole career people would like him. We hated Darius Kaspiritis until the actual day he was traded for, then we made signs welcoming him.

Part of my liking of Hartnell is a direct result of people getting apoplectic at everything he does on the ice. Then again, I see more of his off-ice persona living in this market, so I guess that helps too.

the "if so and so was on your team, you'd like him" argument has always rung pretty empty with me. of course that's going to be the case 99% of the time (with brandon prust as the exception). doesn't mean hartnell isn't a turd

More or less what I was getting at in regards to the liking a player no matter what he does you just look at it differently by what color the uniform is.
