Re: Oilers extend Taylor Hall
Is this where we're supposed to bash the contract for being too long, too much for an unproven, overhyped player?
That's how LGP works, right?

Re: Oilers extend Taylor Hall
i know almost zilch about him, but his numbers the last 2 years project to only about 19 even strength goals per 82 game season.
but he's still really young, and edmonton has to find ways to lock guys up, so whatever.

Taylor Hall rules. Some of the finest skill meets work rate in the league.

I'd pay serious money see him skate on a line with Crosby.

Hall is a center. If I wanted someone from Edmonton for Crosby's wing it would be Eberle.columbia wrote:I'd pay serious money see him skate on a line with Crosby.

Hall was drafted as a wing and still plays as a wing.Big Easy Pens Fan wrote:Hall is a center. If I wanted someone from Edmonton for Crosby's wing it would be Eberle.columbia wrote:I'd pay serious money see him skate on a line with Crosby.

Tried some center in Windsor, but has been a wing for his career in Edmonton...

The talent is there, but so is the risk (shoulder surgery red flag, among others).

Great player, but some injury concerns there as well. Edmonton better get moving towards the playoffs before their young talent reach the end of their rookie deals.mikey287 wrote:Taylor Hall rules. Some of the finest skill meets work rate in the league.

Re: Oilers extend Taylor Hall
Yes he has had shoulder problems, but this is a great move by the Oilers organization. Hall is basically a slightly less talented Sidney Crosby who happens to play wing. And I mean slightly. He is a workhorse and scores from all areas of the ice. I liken him a little to Steve Stamkos, not in the way he plays, but how I think he will progress. If he stays healthy, this year he could be in top-5 in scoring.

Re: Oilers extend Taylor Hall
They only took him up to UFA so I mean they were gonna have him regardless via RFA so its whatevs. This is the same team that gave Horcoff a billion dollars a year for 34 points so Katz has no probs throwin money 'round.Zach6668 wrote:Is this where we're supposed to bash the contract for being too long, too much for an unproven, overhyped player?

Yeah, you control a player for 7 years, not 7 years after they sign their 2nd contract.

Re: Oilers extend Taylor Hall
Crosby is ranked 4th all-time in scoring despite playing exclusively in the lowest scoring (modern) era and with not much support on wing. You think Hall is only "slightly less talented" than one of the very best players to ever play the game?!?Trip McNeely wrote:Yes he has had shoulder problems, but this is a great move by the Oilers organization. LMAO. And I don't mean slightly. I'm talking about hitting furniture on the way to the floor and probably getting a hernia from laughing so hard.Trip McNeely wrote:Yes he has had shoulder problems, but this is a great move by the Oilers organization. Re: Oilers extend Taylor Hall
I also drew comparisons stylistically between Hall and Crosby despite playing different positions. That was the very first thing I thought of when I saw Hall was "he plays like Crosby" - whatever degree he is below Crosby is a matter for the courts, but stylistically for me, Hall is not at all dissimilar. I found it odd that other outlets that covered the draft didn't draw that comparison...I guess I'd be a little scared of that too because many people don't understand how to seperate "plays like" from "will become" which makes player comparisons all the more dicey...

I'll have to watch him play more this (hypothetical) season. I've never seen any Crosby-esque highlights from the guy, but I haven't really been paying attention either.

I'm really high on Hall too, and am sure the Oilers are happy with the deal.
