You sour-heads need to just drive to Philly and spend the day there at Monks.

My sister used to live in walking distance to Monks Cafe. I wish I had known, I would have made the trip to Philly.

I probably went 4 or 5 times, when I lived in Philly.
(And was there for dinner in December, when I was back for a visit.)

Great beer, but I definitely didn't go through the menu as much as I should have.

Truth be told, I spent more time at Ludwigs (which is unfortunately gone now)....But I'm more partial to German beer, so that makes sense.

Cool idea....it's a shame it is wasted on Heineken, a thoroughly skunky, metallic, crap beer.

I had the Cigar City Good Gourd pumpkin ale tonight for my last night in Florida on summer break. It was a pretty good pumpkin ale (on par with the Southern Tier Pumking). I think Florida finally has a good brewery in Cigar City. I've found all of their stuff that I've had this summer to well-made and somewhat creative. I wouldn't put them in the absolute top tier of brewers out there, but I think they fit comfortably in that category of reliably good brewers who make a bunch of good (but not great), interesting stuff (like Southern Tier and maybe Dogfish Head).

I might do $50 for that, but $75 is a bit much.

Oud Broun is probably my favorite Petrus, and that looks like it probably is the Pale beside it.

Yeah, it's getting a little price prohibitive (was $65 last year and $60 the year before), but it's basically the most fun you can have.

I had the Old Broun last night, it was really good. It kind of reminded me a little of a barley wine.

Tried a couple pints of Great Lakes Oktoberfest...one of the best examples of that category I've had yet. Just a delicious, well-balanced marzen.

eddy, their Black Diamond bock is awesome, but not sure if it's available now.

Saranac has some decent stuff. Their caramel porter is a bit too sweet for my liking, but when it gets really cold out, I enjoy having it from time to time. Their IPA is okay. The Black Forest is pretty good stuff. Haven't tried too much else from them.

Everytime I buy anything from them I say to myself, "hmmm...this was decent, but could have been way better." They have a ton of beers that are good conceptually, just not quite right in the actual product.

I was there during my trip to Philly at the beginning of the month and absolutely loved it.

I feel the same way. It's ok, the flavor is almost there. It's just not what it could be.

Yeah, that sums up Saranac for me. Drinkable, but nothing special in any of their beers.

So I'm back in the Burgh and made the trip to H1KB this afternoon. I picked up a bottle of Russian River Sanctification to complete my circuit through the four beers of theirs they typically have in stock. I also got Lost Abbey's Devotion Ale. It got kind of "meh" reviews on beer advocate, but I haven't had any of their stuff and it was on sale. My final selection was The Bruery's Black Orchard. It was also on sale, and the guy at H1KB said it was really good. The beer advocate reviews seem kind of split--some really disliked it and some loved it.

21 hour day yesterday to cap off a 70 hour (five day) work week. The wife had a little care package delivered from Ho1KB this morning (ordered over the phone and had sister in law bring it down). 4 Pumkings and 2 Supplications. Looking forward to this evening :thumb:
