I love when people defend these guys:
"Well, to be fair, he did say the sky was blue. I looked outside, AND IT WAS BLUE. He HAS to have some sources."

Probably shouldn't reveal his name on the internet. He's a *****, but he doesn't deserve to have his life ruined.

Re: The truth behind "Hockeyy Insiderr"
Regarding the article, yeah that's the nature of the internet.
With about $200 I could start a viral "hockey insider" campaign of my own, complete with a YouTube channel, Twitter, etc, and probably start making money off it in about 6 months after establishing a website, and a normal flow of content. For a kid, it's a lot more promising than working at Wendy's. Imagine going into your first job interview
"I worked at Best Buy/Wendy's/wherever..."
"I started a viral internet campaign that lead to over 1,000,000 views over the span of x days, caused controversy and discussion, and marketed it using x, y and z tactics." (Insert social media, and web for x, y and z). Show them revenue generated from Google AdSense, or a similar affiliate advertising program. Add in merchandise made from cafe press, and voila. You've got something for your resume.

I'm not convinced he is that 17 year old. But I find it both amusing and frustrating that he hides his identity. The twitter wars with the legit media crack me up.

Re: The truth behind "Hockeyy Insiderr"
Eklund was the first to do this in the modern world, but he wasn't the first to build a business off BS and have people pay actual money for absolutely nothing. I'd say that's far worse than some kid on Twitter.
Eklund still has a subscriber section right? Wasn't it like $10/mo?

Re: The truth behind "Hockeyy Insiderr"
This "Insider" guy is supposedly building a website now...how much you want to bet he charges for true "inside" information.
He's smart...build up a huge following on twitter, build the site, charge for membership = huge immediate windfall.

He's late, should've launched it all simultaneously. Now with the bad PR people won't make the jump.

Ha-ha...last night "someone" told him Gretzky had a heart attack and he tweeted it without verifying it. This morning he has to go out and say "sorry!"
What a goon!

Odd that you say 'the truth' when you and the author of the article can't know for sure.shafnutz05 wrote:This is probably old news to most of us, but he caught Deadspin's attention this week.

The title of the thread wasnt meant to be a serious critique. I just thought it was funny Deadspin covered him since he's gotten so much attention on the board.
