Nashville was working on a trade and its believed several deadlines passed before Flyers grew tired of waiting. Weber signed offer sheet.

I would agree. $7.1 mil cap hit is pretty good.

I still hate the Flyers.

http://twitter.com/DarrenDreger" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - Its going to be fascinating to see financial terms of Weber's offer sheet. Hearing in one calendar year, he could make $26 mil.

All that means is $13 million now and $13 million on July 1 next year. No lump sum opf $26 million.

Nashville is $14 million under the FLOOR, if they can't pay their best player $15 million today and then keep him for he next 14 years then they need to fold up shop and move to a city and owner that can run a team properly.

If the Flyers pull this off, their prospect pool is going to look pretty bare for a while.

I don't like this move, it makes Philly a much better team.

I'm hoping Nashville signs him, he says he doesn't want to play there, and Poile, who will now have a hate on for the Flyers, trades him to the Pens!!!!!! A couple of prospects and a couple of NHL ready dman to replace Weber and Suter. I can dream.... :fist:

Agreed. As someone mentioned in the Pens Related thread, I can't help but wonder if the Flyers did this knowing that Nashville would match, just to block other teams from getting Weber, especially when Nashville admitted they were trying to move him.

Flyers had to do something they are a weaker team since the start of free agency.

wouldn't surprise me if Detroit was pushing hard for him and was in the lead and Philly made the offer because they where distant in the running or unwilling to give up certain of thei young assets for him

If he doesn't want to play there it's awfully risky for him to sign a 14 year offer sheet knowing full well that Nashville can match.

I never heard that he doesn't want to play in Nashville.

Since Shero's drafting style is so hated, maybe the Pens should have made this offer.

Seems like kind of a dumb move for Weber here if he ever had designs on leaving Nashville. This all but guarantees that he'll be playing in Nashville for the rest of his career, I would think.
On the other hand, if he really did want to stay and he was having trouble getting the Preds to go there on term or money, a nice play by him and a bridge burnt by Philly, perhaps.

I'm glad Shero's drafting style means we'll never have to make this offer.

A 14 year deal sounds like it should be invalidated by Betman honestly.

I hate the Flyers, Paul Holmgren is the devil, and I hate offer sheets. Now that that is out of the way:

I have never heard that Weber wants out of Nashville. I do know that he was extremely upset that Suter did not re-up with the Preds and that situation could have caused him to consider other options. This is an interesting situation. The Flyers could have done the Preds a favor by getting him to sign that OS, all they have to do is match it and he is a Pred for life. I am not sure that it was a great move be Weber to sign it, if he knows that Nashville will match. His loyalty to the team that he captains can now be called into question.

It will be interesting to hear if the offer has a no trade clause. I believe at the very least the offer sheet prevents NSH from moving him for at least the first year of the contract.

Its basically the same as Sid's deal, no?

At first glance, it seems like Nashville should just pack up their stuff and leave the league if they don't match this.
