Re: NHL Transactions and News - 2012 Offseason
Brodeur is set to test the FA market. I think that if Parise signs with another team, Brodeur will take it as a sign that Devils aren't going to be much of a threat this year and will do the same. God. Oh, God. I hope he doesn't go to the Flyers.

Broduer will probably re-sign. That said, he helped the Devils a lot for years by taking below market on his contract.Sarcastic wrote:Brodeur is set to test the FA market. Nice pay day for Moen. Good for him. Would have been great on the Pens...no need to spend that kind of coin yet though. Bigger fish in the sea...mikey287 wrote:Travis Moen s'entend avec le Canadien: 4 ans et $1.85 mil avg.

Chicago or TO would be realistic places for him.KG wrote:Broduer will probably re-sign. I take this as a sign that Parise is leaving.

Won't play for Toronto. Hates their goalie coach. Doesn't get along with the Allaire's...I don't blame him...Kovy27 wrote:Chicago or TO would be realistic places for him.KG wrote:Broduer will probably re-sign. I think Derek Joslin, Matt Bradley, Mike Santorelli and Colby Armstrong have been bought out in the ordinary course window.

Apparently, he's not hoping to get in PR after his career is over.James Mirtle @mirtle
Word is, just as Oilers had Gretzky call Schultz, Ducks tried to get Niedermayer to talk to him. Schultz wouldn't take his calls.

Yeah I mean if he wants to exploit that CBA loophole to control his fate, I'm not sure I can blame him, but seriously, be a professional about it and man up and tell the team why you won't sign instead of ignoring them.SolidSnake wrote:Schultz seems like a jerk

Add Eric Boulton (NJ) and Oskars Bartulis (Phi) to that list...mikey287 wrote:I think Derek Joslin, Matt Bradley, Mike Santorelli and Colby Armstrong have been bought out in the ordinary course window.

Same reason as Blake Wheeler...had an opportunity to be an unrestricted free agent in his early 20's and took it...I don't much care for it either though.Fire0nice228 wrote:Why didn't he sign with the Ducks, I havn't really followed it much. Seems like a brat or a diva to me.
2 year deal with the Oilers...just traded Jamie McBain for Jeff Petry in my fantasy league, foxtrot...

So, what about FLA? Seems like a decent fit and could mold Jakob Markstrom?mikey287 wrote:Won't play for Toronto. Hates their goalie coach. Re: NHL Transactions and News - 2012 Offseason
At above re: Brodeur - Possible. Theodore/Markstrom or Theodore/Brodeur with some tutor work for Markstrom might be good. I still think he ends up back in New Jersey. If the Devils don't get back Parise, I think they'll just re-sign Marty. Brodeur hasn't had an agent in years, so he probably just doesn't want to be called 100 times on Sunday afternoon...I think it will just work itself out...Kovy27 wrote:I question why this was handled this way....Is he that good or that arrogant or is it both?npv708 wrote:Justin Schultz to the Oilers
Re: Schultz. Ryan Getzlaf had this to say: "He better be really good because a lot of players, not just on this team, don't like the way he's handling this situation. We want guys who want to be here and be a part of our team. No one wants to deal with that sh... uh stuff in the locker room."
I wouldn't doubt that some players are looking at this as a "holier than thou" rookie making a spectacle of himself...to be honest, I didn't care for what Wheeler did or what Schultz did...I don't like it. It's a privilege to be selected by an NHL team, not a right...I don't wish injury on a player by any means, but I wouldn't mind if Luca Sbisa or Francois Beauchemin or Sheldon Brookbank just made his life absolutely miserable when he comes to Anaheim...

What is the loophole that Schultz is using? Like how did he become a free agent.

Bruce Garrioch @SunGarrioch
Don't be surprised if the Senators make a deal for a defenceman now that Bobby Orr has elected to sign with Edmonton.

Re: NHL Transactions and News - 2012 Offseason
Article 8.6 (c) of the CBA:Rylan wrote:What is the loophole that Schultz is using? Like how did he become a free agent.
Basically: Schultz was drafted out of Junior A (BCHL) in 2008. He also played for them in 2009. Then he went to the University of Wisconsin for three more seasons. Now we're at the "fourth June 1 following [his draft year]" he was selected in late June 2008, so you got June 1, 2009, '10, '11, '12...the Ducks exclusive negotiating rights expired on June 1, 2012 at which point he becomes an unrestricted free agent by way of being an unsigned draft pick but is too old to have to re-enter the draft. Therefore, UFA status. If a Player drafted at age 18 or 19, who had received a Bona Fide Offer in accordance with Section 8.6(a)(ii) above, becomes a bona fide college student prior to the second June 1 following his selection in the Entry Draft and does not remain a bona fide college student through the graduation of his college class, his drafting Club shall retain exclusive rights for the negotiation of his services until the fourth June 1 following his selection in the Entry Draft.

Paul Gaustad re-signs in Nashville for 4 years and a $3.25 million AAV.
Wow, way to overpay for someone and still not have Ryan Suter.
