Re: NHL Transactions and News - 2012 Offseason
I agree that the contract is silly. But I also agree that this likely means a deal is in the works. They are paying a lot of money for a very average blue line. And their issue has been lack of scoring and forward depth. So I'd imagine J-Bo to somewhere to free up a bunch of cap space and overpay for a bunch of middling wingers is on it's way. Aaron Asham had one good playoff game vs Philly and showed some toughness when he got suspended. They probably have him penciled into their 2nd line for $3.5m a season.

Don't you just get the tingly feeling that Ryan Suter goes to one of Pittsburgh or Detroit and the other team gets Jay Bouwmeester...

I don't know if Detroit would trade for him...mikey287 wrote:Don't you just get the tingly feeling that Ryan Suter goes to one of Pittsburgh or Detroit and the other team gets Jay Bouwmeester...

Actually, when's the last time Detroit traded for a big time player? I'm sure it's happened recently and I'm just forgetting, but I can't remember them making a deal for a player like that in a long time.
And to answer your question... yes. I also can't wait for his post trade interviews. They might have to interview a shoelace to make it more exciting.

I would personally be depressed if we missed out on Suter and Bouwmeester was our plan b.

I don't like J-bo, if we don't get Suter i'd be fine to stick with what we have for now.

I don't think he's anyone's plan b at this point; and I mean anywhere in the league.Malkamaniac wrote:I would personally be depressed if we missed out on Suter and Bouwmeester was our plan b.

That would reek of sheer desperation. I'm not sure Suter is obtainable, but having to give ANYTHING to get jbo would be an overpayment because his contract still is terrible despite the great inflation of dmen contracts in the past 2 years.Malkamaniac wrote:I would personally be depressed if we missed out on Suter and Bouwmeester was our plan b.

I would rather give Morrow a shot rather than take on J-bo for the next 2 years.

Jbo would be fantastic in the parking lot letting people know not to park in a spot, since he's a pylon and all.

Pylon would indicate that he's bad defensively. But he's actually one of the better defensive defensemen in the league.Malkamaniac wrote:Jbo would be fantastic in the parking lot letting people know not to park in a spot, since he's a pylon and all.

Not last year he wasn't. He pretty much sucked. Crosby also agrees that he's a pylonmikey287 wrote:Pylon would indicate that he's bad defensively. A guy with all that talent and a compete level that is negligible for 6.8mil the next two years? Where do I sign?

Re: NHL Transactions and News - 2012 Offseason
I don't know what his numbers look like, but just like most years in his career and every year he's been in Calgary, he's been the best defensive player on his own team. He ended up getting stuck with Chris Butler at times this year, IIRC, which was disastrous because Butler is terrible...but other than that, Bouwmeester continues to be a top defender in the league without question...definition of a minute-muncher, and independent of salary, every team in the league would love to have a player like that...brwi wrote:Not last year he wasn't. 10 year deal for Quick coming...less than $60 million too...good cap hit for the Kings...probably won't be much more than $5.6 or $5.8 mil...
EDIT: It is $58 million.

My view of Bouwmeester (and probably others here) is skewed by all the times Crosby made him look silly. Granted, that's probably not the most fair comparison... but it's the body of work I've seen.

Re: NHL Transactions and News - 2012 Offseason
Boumeester is a pretty damn good dman that has a terrible contract that was based on the fact that he was a UFA and also used to contribute a lot on offense. Since arriving in Calgary, he gave that up, did a bunch of interviews that made you question whether this guy is the ultimate stoner in history, and then played a lot of minutes as a "shutdown dman" with somewhat mixed results. Boumeester's ROI is pretty bad. If he was getting paid about 4mil a year, everyone would be happy with what he brings. At 6.8mil, he's a big waste of money.the wicked child wrote:My view of Bouwmeester (and probably others here) is skewed by all the times Crosby made him look silly. Martin Brodeur very likely to test free agent market. Brodeur has hired Pat Brisson (CAA) to represent him. Bidders get ready! -- Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger)
