I think Burke won that deal hands-down.

JVR should do well in TOR if he stays healthy. Flyers pick up another big, slow D man. Now i can hate the Schenn's even more. Win Burke.....That sounds weird.

Re: NHL Transactions and News - 2012 Offseason
Today is QO deadline day, which I always look forward to personally...one mildly surprising one or two here: Benoit Pouliot (just acquired by Tampa) will not get one, but is expected to re-sign there anyway. Anton Stralman did not get one from New York. Blake Comeau ($2.5M) unsurprisingly did not get one from Calgary.
Correction: Stralman did get one.

Surprising Stralman not qualified for as much as NYR leaned on him during stretches last year. I remember how excited I was that Enver Lisin was not qualified because I wanted the Pens to pick him up. Then he never played in the NHL again, I don't think. Its funny how many guys end up out of the league after not being qualified. That year where Shero purged everyone comes to mind.

Re: NHL Transactions and News - 2012 Offseason
I believe everyone's favorite YouTube All-Star and Oilers trade-bait entrée Linus Omark will not be retained either. Not very surprising and is probably headed back to Europe. Ryan Parent and Marc-Andre Gragnani from Vancouver and he will go to Europe. And Cam Barker from Edmonton, also are to become autonomous players without restriction or compensation.
Correction: Stralman will be qualified.
Islander reject, now Predator reject Jack Hillen will be released, terrible fighter Zach Stortini as well...
EDIT: Added MAG. Surprising. He has a lot of upside I feel.

Ondrej Pavelec re-signs with Winnipeg - 5 years, $3.9 million per. Great job by Winnipeg to keep their goaltender. Had a lot of interest from the KHL it was rumored. Was very very good for the Jets this year, good for them.

Re: NHL Transactions and News - 2012 Offseason
How about report that NYI Garth Snow offered all of his draft picks to CLB for the number 2 pick? I find that hard to believe that he would offer that, and if he did, that CLB would reject that considering they would move from number 2 to number 4, and then have a total of 12 picks in the draft.

Thats ridiculous.

Re: NHL Transactions and News - 2012 Offseason
Yeah I had heard that a couple days ago. Very interesting. It's been reported by numerous places though. There's no price (virtually) that you can put on getting the guy you want in the draft. Snow and Howson both agree with that. Both wanted Murray big time. The Blue Jackets probably didn't trust their scouting staff to make good on the other picks, considering they let 4 of them go right after the draft.

Re: NHL Transactions and News - 2012 Offseason
Couple more in that are notable:
Montreal won't qualify fourth-liner Michael Blunden
Ducks won't for Riley Holazapfel
Avalanche let Kevin Porter and Peter Mueller go, the latter is a concussion case and questions to his commitment to the game come up as well...$2.5M was too big of a pill for Colorado evidently...
Wojtek Wolski is let go by Florida

I know you'll probably dislike this, but I'd go after Wolski or Mueller as low risk, high reward players if a star winger (Parise) doesn't work out.mikey287 wrote:Couple more in that are notable:

So all three parts of the mueller, porter, wolski trade gonzo in the same day. That's pretty funny.
Mueller would be a good reclamation project for a bad team

Re: NHL Transactions and News - 2012 Offseason
Always been a big fan of Wolski. One-way player though, so you gotta babysit him a little certainly. He's got a lot of talent. I remember him tearing it up with the Brampton Battalion way back when. Mueller isn't bad either, I wouldn't be totally shocked if he retired either. I'm not positive, but he may be a rare exception where he's eligible for performance bonuses if we give him a one year deal because I believe he spent 100 or more days on IR last season. Possible he's eligible for bonuses, will have to check on it. Both not terrible ideas, Mueller is a natural center though. They have good skill but have their pitfalls. If Wolski wants to come here on a Sullivan/Fedtenko type deal, I'm more than game.

I like Mueller if the price is right, but I dont know where he would fit.
I'm hoping for Latendresse big time Mikey. Have you heard anything about him as far as what he's looking to do? I read that he likes Minn.

I fully expect him to return to Minnesota...if I had to guess, one-year, $2 million or thereabouts.Fire0nice228 wrote:I like Mueller if the price is right, but I dont know where he would fit.

Wolski = a Polish Erik Christensen.
He has some offensive upside, but the majority of his game is the shootout (from what I've seen, anyway).

Scratch Shane O'Brien off your lists if you had him making free agency...re-signed with Colorado for 3 years at $2 million per. Someone must have a bingo by now.....

As I wrote in the non-NHL transaction thread, what's even funnier is that Beech's current agent is Michal Sivek.penny lane wrote:ironySeth Rorabaugh @emptynetters
