Re: NHL Awards 2012
Re: Karlsson hate.
Karlsson had a historic season. He dominated his peers offensively to a level we haven't seen in years and years...IIRC seeing the numbers correctly, only d-men named Orr, Coffey and Kelly have had such domianting seasons over the rest of their peers. When's the last time a d-man finished top-10 in points? I think it was Leetch in 1992...20 years ago!
He's not Mike Green/Phil Housley bad defensively (both have been recognized for their horrid defense and were kept away from the Norris as a result)...he's not great, but what do you want...neither is Shea Weber...Suter is way better defensively and helps him out majorly...and as for the defensive discussion - Coffey and Leetch, both pretty poor defensive players, are multiple Norris Trophy winners in the modern era.
I'm a pro-defense guy as much or more than anyone here I feel...it's funny, the same people that go "the trap!!!!1111! boo!!!" and "this game is boring" are the same people that don't give credit for a historically good offensive season from a d-man and pan the notion of an offensive defenseman winning it...very strange sentiment...
