Well the subtle interference is alive and well in game 2 too. That being said, the only "real" story line is NJ and Marty being 40. Except now they're down 2-0.

I think it's safe to say that there will always be subtle interference in the game.Malkamaniac wrote:Well the subtle interference is alive and well in game 2 too.
Just like in the NFL, there will be holding on every play. The question is, is it bad enough to call a penalty.
I think it's just part of a contact sport.

I guess I should say, blatant interference that used to be called after the lock out is worse now than it's ever been and it goes uncalled.newarenanow wrote:I think it's safe to say that there will always be subtle interference in the game.Malkamaniac wrote:Well the subtle interference is alive and well in game 2 too.

It's mind melting how much they left the defender just stand in front of the guy holding him after the skater chips the puck in and that's not towards the Kings or the Devils. Both teams are doing it because they know it's not getting called.

Its not worse than it was before the lockout. I'm still perplexed by that Doughty goal though, why not interfere...or get into his peripheral vision?

Meant to say that it's the worst it's been since before the lock-out. It's never going to be as bad as it was, but it's pretty bad right now.Idoit40fans wrote:Its not worse than it was before the lockout.

I don't believe that's correct. Could be wrong, but I don't think that's right. I think this in the lowest rated series since Anaheim/Ottawa in 2007 and for good reason in the States (re: '07)...shmenguin wrote:i think it was worse in the 09 SCFMalkamaniac wrote:Meant to say that it's the worst it's been since before the lock-out. Funny how the year that has allowed the most clutch and grab hockey since the lockout, is the year with the lowest TV ratings. Not sure if that's the reason, but its interesting.
Also having two teams with no real big time names and with smaller fan bases probably is a factor too.

I think they were referring to the amount of obstruction/interference.mikey287 wrote:I don't believe that's correct. Could be wrong, but I don't think that's right. Probably not the former, considering there were higher ratings in the heart of the clutch-and-grab era. The ratings went down when played Anaheim played New Jersey and Tampa Bay played Calgary which could be chalked up to lackluster markets I feel...Trip McNeely wrote:Funny how the year that has allowed the most clutch and grab hockey since the lockout, is the year with the lowest TV ratings. Ooh, yikes...it appears they were. My apologies. Read the posts consecutively, but not the quotes... Good call, thanks.MRandall25 wrote:I think they were referring to the amount of obstruction/interference.mikey287 wrote:I don't believe that's correct. Could be wrong, but I don't think that's right. Re: Non-Pens NHL Games Thread
I had a site (I was working on a paper for a TV class and I used ESPN/sports ratings) that had the Stanley Cup TV ratings back to 1990, but the site's offline and Wiki only gives up to the lockout.mikey287 wrote:Probably not the former, considering there were higher ratings in the heart of the clutch-and-grab era. That aside, I believe I found that the average ratings were higher before the lockout, and even though ANA-NJ and TBL-CGY had low ratings (compared to other broadcasts in that era), they weren't as bad as when the NHL came back from the lockout.
Scratch what I said earlier, found some numbers here: http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2012/0 ... ll/135982/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It's been slowly reaching pre-lockout levels, but it's still not that close.
Another part of why those 2 series were considerably lower is because 2 of the games were on ESPN. ESPN games were only getting ~ .5 ratings, which I feel can be chalked up to the fact it's cable and not network, but that's just my opinion. A .5 rating when you're consistently getting 3's on ABC brings the average of a 7 game series down to ~ 2.3.
Just a theory.
