Re: Non-Pens NHL Games Thread
Did you guys see Zach Parise after the game last night? I couldn't get over just how ridiculously excited he was to be going to the SCF. That's what I want to see in players. Same with Kovalchuk...he has showed a ridiculous amount of fire. It's very easy to root for this team, I genuinely like what I'm seeing from them.

Is it too early to set a Pierre over/under for Mike Richards leadership references? Maybe with a parlay including words to the effect of, "He doesn't wear the C, but...."

Not likely since the Prince of Whales Trophy is the hockey version of the Lamar Hunt Trophy. I've never bragged that the Steelers have won it 8 times.DudeMan2766 wrote:Wow. The Devils have won the Prince of Wales Trophy 5 times. Now the most of all time. The New Jersey Friggen Devils

In the playoffs, it's not the PPG you want, it's the TOTAL points.Southern Fan wrote:Points per game in the playoffs. Four of the top six are Pens. Bizarre

Hmmm. A 6th seed entering the playoffs has home ice advantage entering the SCF. Go figure.

had the pens beaten philly, and made it all the way to the finals, they would have had home ice in every series but the ecf. man this sucks!!Big Easy Pens Fan wrote:Hmmm. A 6th seed entering the playoffs has home ice advantage entering the SCF. Go figure.

Wow. The nj love here is slightly nauseating. Go kings, go kings, go kings, and eff off devils. Thanks for taking out Philly and the rags, but I'm done with you now, please lose.

I will be happy with either team winning. Quite the opposite of last year. I'll be in vegas in time to bet on games unless there is a sweep.

Not that bizarre. for example, in our six game series with the Flyers we scored 26 goals (56 total) and lost. the Devils in their 6 game series with the Rangers scored 15 goals (29 total) but won. With numbers like that, points per game are going to be high. Our series was not typical playoff hockey and also had the 10-3 blowout in it.Southern Fan wrote:Points per game in the playoffs. I'm definitely rooting for the Kings in the SCF. Kopitar and Brown are awesome on so many levels. Thinking back, I can't believe there was any talk about the Kings trading Brown, it just seems so insane right now. There really isn't a single player on the Kings I actually dislike. Brown, Kopitar, Scuderi, Quick, etc are all really easy to root for.

Re: Non-Pens NHL Games Thread
I thought Devils/Rangers was a great series. Better than I expected. It was just good, hard, playoff hockey. In the end, I thought that Rangers' lack of top-end talent was their fault and I would specifically point fingers at 4 players: Richards who just isn't productive enough for his salary; Gaborik who isn't worth what he makes and is still too soft a player; Stepan and Hagelin who are counted on too much to provide offense. I also thought that Lundqvist didn't play that great in the last 2 games. I think the Devils finally got to him.
What surprises me is how well-coached the Devils are and also that their roster is better than I thought, specifically their forwards.
The winning goal was a scramble in front of the net, but it was Gaborik who found himself with the puck between two Devils then lost it. I really did not like him in the series. I gained a lot of respect for Kovalchuk, however.

That middle point there, Sarcastic, can't be stressed enough. What a job of adaptability, discipline, smarts, you name it from Pete DeBoer...wasn't sure he had that in him, wow what a job he did though with this team. He really grew into a terrific coach this year in my book and he's getting a lot of mileage out of a - on paper - pretty mediocre blueline. Terrific job by Pete DeBoer...

Well, 4 to 7 games left in this hockey season. I really don't have a favorite, just looking for good exciting playoff hockey. Preferably 7 games with a couple OTs thrown in.
