at 11AM. Looks like he's going to retire. He'll go right from the podium into the HoF.

3 years is a lot of walking/running from the podium to the hall. I wonder how far he'll travel in that time and what his route will be.

He's a time traveler man. 3 years is nothing for this guy.

Salute~ a gentleman ! He could have played in any era, on any team, and results the same!
My heart all but stopped for him on 6/12/09!

Spoiler:
Chris Johnston ‏@reporterchris
Sergei Gonchar (748) will become NHL's active leader in points by a defenceman when Nicklas Lidstrom and his 1,142 step aside

Oh, no. Well, congrats on a great career. Wings... I can't see them be the same without him. It won't be right for a while. I sometimes still hope in the back of my mind that Mario decides to unretire.

these won't be your fathers red wings next season. lidstrom, and holmstrom gone. a no longer elite zetterberg. and i still think howard is a bit of a question mark. interesting to see what ufa's they go after hard. i think the talk of parise going there is no longer going to happen. suter perhaps.

He's been such a good player for so long. It was coming eventually and the Red Wings will likely lose Stuart on the blueline as well. Granted, they will have a ton of cap space, but if Suter re-signs, I don't know what they will do.

As an aside, doesn't anyone find it weird he's announcing it tomorrow? I know players are on their own timelines, but for such big news, he couldn't have done it yesterday or even this morning before the Finals started?

34 points in 70 games and a +21 in his final season at 41-42 years of age.

Detroit has a current 44 million cap hit, looks like they will go shopping in the offseason. 25 Million cap space to replenish their lineup. yuck!!!!! Almost gets ya depressed.

Never had a problem with Lindstrom but can't say i was a fan. No doubt he is one of the best defencemen during his era.

Definitely have a ton of respect for the guy. Top defenseman for his era, seems like the end of era out West with Yzerman, Sakic, Modano, and now Lidstrom gone.

I really think the Wings might have a bit of trouble next year depending on how they go after free agents this summer. They've had problems with Howard staying healthy and with their guys getting older, they'll need more than just Datsyuk and Zetts to carry the team.

Awww. Did you really cry because Lidstrom's retiring? I teared up when listening to a song over the weekend. Non-Metal. We can be cry buddies!

What a bummer - this guy has been a staple in the NHL since before I was old enough to even comprehend the game of hockey.

One of the best careers anyone could ever imagine. I drink to you, Nik
