Hunter Out in DC
Bruce Arthur @bruce_arthur
Dale Hunter steps down as Capitals coach. Anyone know a good Ovechkin-wrangler?

I have a feeling Swetty Teddy and GMGM are behind this decision.

Mike Vogel @VogsCaps
#Caps knew this was a possibility in November when Hunter was hired. Hoped he would return, knew it was possible he wouldn't.

I don't think you can call it "stepping down" when his contract expired at the end of this season...

not surprising. there were rumblings that hunter was never that enthused about the job to begin with and wanted to stay with his junior team.

Hunter told GMGM "It's time for me to get back to my family, and the family business".shmenguin wrote:not surprising. there were rumblings that hunter was never that enthused about the job to begin with and wanted to stay with his junior team.
I don't think Fat Teddy or GMGM wanted him to go, I think Hunter just got sick of the nonsense he had to put up with.

Honestly, he had them playing some respectable hockey towards the end of the year.

Katie Carrera tweet:
Doesn't sound like he wants to come back to the big show. At all. When asked if he might come back to the NHL down the road, Dale Hunter simply said "I'm going home."

I like to think of him taking one good look around the locker room and saying, "I want no part of this clown show."
"Beat Dat Beat" was probably the deal breaker.

He never seemed like he wanted a long term coaching gig in the NHL. Good for him, he did a good job with the team while he was there.

Forget where I saw it, but before the playoffs started, the rumor was that Hunter didn't have any intention of returning and basically doesn't want to be a NHL HC.

.500 hockey for the season, .500 hockey for the playoffs. This is a gift to the Caps organization.
I'm thinking GMGM needs to go, but let's hope not.
