It's really tough to call, though, too. In all honesty, when you see a stick coming up toward your face, for most people the natural reaction is to throw your head back out of the way... for example. Also, sometimes when you get hit, the initial sting and your reaction is often way worse than the actual, eventual lingering pain/injury.
It's difficult... how about fines, and/or public warnings?

There is an easy solution to this problem. Simply fine the divers after the fact and suspend repeat offenders. Like all of the shot blocking, it needs to come out of the game immediately before it degenerates into International soccer. Marchand is among the worst offenders of this rule but he is far from alone - even some of our beloved Penguins are guilty of this behavior.
