I didn't really buy the Theon sell-out. If he sincerely went home looking to make an alliance for the Starks, he seemed to turn on them pretty quickly for the sake of a father who truly seems to detest him. Maybe the books go more into his thought process here.
All of the Theon going home storyline is pretty spot on from the book. Especially his ride home with his Sister....ew

And ladies and gentlemen, you have met Brienne of Tarth. If you have a Westeros dictionary and look up "Bad Ass" you see a picture of her.

She has a smoking body, but I really hate the smirk thing she does. She does it every other scene in Tudors season 1. Learn some new facial expressions! At least in GoT she is in much more revealing outfits.

I just finished watching season 1 on dvd. The series is fantastic. I'm going to have to read the books now, or just add them to the stack of must read books I already have. I didn't have HBO until yesterday, called comcast about any deals. $10 a month for HBO for a year.

Renly and the Tyrells in the bedroom... yikes.
Spoiler:
why do you say yikes? I think how open HBO is being about Renly's relationship is awesome. I guess Margaery's part of that scene was kind of uncomfortable

Considering it was never really part of the story in the books, I'm not a fan of it.

It was definitely an undertone, just not explicit. I don't have a problem with it personally.

Yes. An UNDERTONE. It wasn't even really out there in the books. You just kinda thought something might be up. The show has made it into gay porn. I have a problem with that. I wont stop watching but I will FFWD through those scenes. Then again, I do the same with the hetero sex scenes as well.

I think you can understand why I am happy about the openness, but I understand where you are coming from as well.

HBO likes to push the wrought nature of their programs when given the opportunity--even in the sopranos its evident. I dont care for the scenes but it connects the ideological with the physical and reinforces, in this situation, "renly is a strong looking king who happens to be into dudes". its easy to put aside the meat of who he actually is if you avoid those scenes, but a character is who he/she is with the summation of all the parts of his being (not physically speaking lol). i respect your opinion and see where you are coming from, but its a miniscule, but important portion of the storyline. the near-barbaric sex, war, whoring, etc is a rising tide and these scenes, while they may seem deplorable, help build the wave, narratively speaking. ...if that makes sense.

It's strictly the sex that I don't want to see. Since I have read the books, any dialogue that happens during those moments will probably not be lost on me. It's a personal choice not to watch those scenes. I still love the show and will continue to watch every week.

***BOOK SPOILER***

I honestly don't see a thing wrong with that scene, in fact I literally LOL'd when she said that. She goes on to explain her motivation (getting pregnant) and makes it clear she doesn't care how that end is achieved.

The distinction between hetero-and homosexual as we know it is in fact an invention of the 19th century. Before that, it were heterosexual (as in: not meant for reproduction) activities that were considered perverted. So there.

One of my favorite scenes in the entire series (up to book 3, didn't read the other 2) is
Spoiler:
when The Red Viper steps in for Tyrion to fight Gregor Clegane. It was very Inigo Montoya-esc. I hope they capture the same level of intensity on the show. Won't see the scene for another year or 2, unfortunately.
