Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Are all the mexican beers up to $30? Modelo or Especial might be under $30.

I spent a long time at Giant Eagle this afternoon trying to pick myself a winner for the Pens' game tonight. I settled on New Holland's Dragon's Milk. Has anyone had this before?
I also picked up a sixer of Raison d'Etre, my old stand-by, just in case game 2 looks like game 1 and I need to ponder my reasons for being a Pens' fan.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I liked the Dragon's Milk. I did find it a little syrupy, though. I guess it's not an issue, since it's clearly bad juju, and I won't be drinking it again anytime soon.
By the way, I hadn't seen that beer advocate site before. It's awesome. It's just frustrating that so many of the top-rated don't seem to be at my Giant Eagle. It seems like Russian River Brewing has a ton of beers in the top 50, but I don't recall ever seeing their stuff in a bar or store.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
There are a couple places around Philly that have RR but that's it for PA. Unless you go to a craft emporium and they have some "under the table." I have a friend traveling out there soon, and I'm having him bring me a few Consecration back.largegarlic wrote:I liked the Dragon's Milk. I did find it a little syrupy, though. I had Anchor Porter the other night. Excellent porter - one of my favorites.
Had Red Hook Nut Brown last night - "good" rating.
Have a Xingu Black Beer chilling for the second period. Finally found it at Wegman's in Erie.

Has anybody tried the Gouden Carolus easter beer?
Bought two bottles for a later date. Just wanted to know what to expect when opening it.

Best cheep beer, under 20, Miller high life bottles. Best cheap beer doesn't mean its good, but its the best of the worst.eddysnake wrote:straub dark?canaan wrote:I love great beer but never want to splurge on it and settle for 20/case nonsense... i've always been able to stomach two 40s of high life now and then, but one ounce over that makes me gargle it back up a bit.

wow, i've been trying to remember that name for a decade. everytime i see carlsburg red i think about it but i know it's not that. went to toronto when we were 19 and it was the standout of the beers i tried.ExPatriatePen wrote:Had some Rickards Red in Toronto last week, it was surprisingly good. had a Steenbrugge Tripel last night, it was pretty tasty. Also had some Kona Longboard, it's pretty refreshing. Also has some Lagunitas IPA last night, probably my favorite IPA. Also had a few cigars last night, first of the year. Not feeling great for some reason this morning.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
That sounds like a good list. Not that I've had any of those, but it's just awesome to try different stuff from high quality breweries (beer shopping is probably the one form of shopping I enjoy).
Has anyone been to the House of 1000 Beers in New Ken? It gets pretty good reviews on beeradvocate, with some indicating that they regularly have Russian River brews. I might stop by after work to pick up something for the game tonight (playoff hockey is a good justification for splurging on good beer).

I still haven't stopped in at House of 1000 Beers. No idea why, I'm up that way at least once a month. I've heard they do get some RR.

I was already planning on going to Divestock, that's real close to me -- didn't know it was part of a much larger machine!
