Reflecting on the episode... it was better than my initial reaction. The big thing was that I was expecting it to begin one way having read the book, and then when it didn't start there, I kept waiting for that scene to happen... one of the drawbacks of having read the books I guess.

I was the same way. It actually hurt my enjoyment of the episode for a bit because I was expecting it to start like the 1st season. I kept wondering if they were even going to show it.

Storm Of Swords spoiler
Spoiler:
Given the recent interview with the shows writers/creators and the first scene with Joffrey and Tyrion from s02e01, I think they may move Joffrey's death to this season.

you are correct. They need to get people to watch the show besides only those who read the book. It made sense how they did it. What will be interesting is to see who gets extended time this season. For those who didn't have huge parts, they can't just tell some of the actors there services won't be needed until next season, right? From what I remember, Dany didn't have a huge part, but she's a big face of the show. I am looking forward to the house of the undying with her though.

Spoiler:
Hopefully not. Part of what made his death so enjoyable was seeing the Lannister's perfect little world crumbling after the Red Wedding appeared to have turned the tide in their favor for good. It would lose a lot of its power if that were the case.

Another solid episode. Hopefully the action picks up a bit more soon though.

As a note, love the table at Dragonstone.

Last night was the first time I felt like 10 episodes (or maybe I should say 1 hour episodes) isn't enough for all the storylines. I thought the episode was solid, but it felt like with so much going on, you don't get enough on screen time with all the characters before it moves to the next.
Spoiler:
Also, in the book did Bronn become leader of the City Watch, don't remember?

IIRC, yes. But then again, I might not RC so....TIFWIW....OK?

If you want to re-read without reading each book again, check out http://towerofthehand.com/books/guide.html. Very nice synopsis for each chapter.

not sure what all those letters mean, but...
Spoiler:
Tyrion then informs Janos that he will be sailing on the Summer's Dream in the morning, bound for Eastwatch and the Night's Watch. Janos walks out defiantly, only to be confronted by Ser Jacelyn, the new Commander of the City Watch. Ser Jacelyn has Lord Janos escorted away, and Tyrion gives him the list containing the names of the six people Janos recommended to replace him as Commander and tells Jacelyn to ship them north too. He says that Allar should be lost at sea.

Might just be the Ned Stark-lessness of this season but this show has gotten boring.

I have read all the books but am not familiar with the series progression. Someone that is familiar with both, isn't the start of this season generally coinciding with the slower parts of the book series?

Last night felt like a setup episode, I think the next 2 will be much better. They seem to be straying from the books this season. I think this show plays out better as a whole rather than episode by episode, there is so much going on that you have to sacrifice some excitement to set things up

I haven't read the books, but...
Spoiler:
I didn't really buy the Theon sell-out. If he sincerely went home looking to make an alliance for the Starks, he seemed to turn on them pretty quickly for the sake of a father who truly seems to detest him. Maybe the books go more into his thought process here.
