The Pittsburgh sports-talk station that reached an agreement in September to broadcast the Pirates' games has now told its hosts they may not discuss the situation, or to field calls on the air from listeners interested in talking about it. The topic apparently may only be discussed on the station in news updates. The decision by station management at 93.7 KDKA-FM, The Fan—a CBS Radio-owned property—is currently being tossed around Yinzer circles on Twitter, and a source has just confirmed it to me directly.
According to this story from late last summer about the station's purchase of the Pirates' broadcast rights, it's not the first time KDKA-FM has caved to appease a local sports team with whom it has such an agreement:
Pitt, for example, was not happy with some of the commentary it received from The Fan hosts during last football season. That unhappiness resulted in some changes in the pre and post-game hosts.

Chris mueller was the first to talk about it last night. He even admitted the gag order on twitter. Said that he was no white knight, just following orders, and that all of the hosts before him would have talked about it if they were permitted to. No oops on deadspins part whatsoever.

Kenny the kangaroo didnt have a problem when pitt gave the fan crap for siebels antics on the sidelines. he wasnt acting like a sideline reporter, he was acting like a loudmouf talkshow host. there is a big difference, and he deserved to get the ax. jon burton does a much better job.

I agree, a sideline reporter is there to report. When he is on his talk show, he can be a talkshow host and throw in opinion.KennyTheKangaroo wrote:Kenny the kangaroo didnt have a problem when pitt gave the fan crap for siebels antics on the sidelines. he wasnt acting like a sideline reporter, he was acting like a loudmouf talkshow host. there is a big difference, and he deserved to get the ax. jon burton does a much better job.
Just like when Zeise writes his articles, he takes out his biases and opinion. When he does his blog, he includes it.

Re: The Official LGP Pittsburgh Sport Radio Thread
This was a really big gaf by the fan... did they REALLY think they could just never speak about this / no one would notice? What the...
Also since they finally lifted the gag I've noticed a lot of the commentators taking the approach of "OOO YINZER NATION DIDN'T CARE ABOUT HINES AS MUCH BECAUSE HE'S A STEELER!"
I really think that's kind of unfair
Coonelly is front office, I think they should be held to a higher standard than athletes
I think it'd be a bigger deal if Tomlin, Rooney, Colbert, etc got a DUI than if Ike Redman did
Same with Shero, Mario, DB, morehouse than if TK got one
Both are wrong, but one looks much worse than the other imo

I meant to ask if Ellis Cannon was still around. And wondering why he doesn't receive any heat. This might go in the irrational pet peeves thread but it drove-me-nuts how he always shortened a players first name to make it sound like they're buddies, even tho no one called them that. Every time he'd call them "Gene Malkin, Al Ovechkin, Al Fanica, Ty Kennedy. There were others but man it got on my nerves. And his stupid callers "Permission to come aboard cap-tain.".....Pa-mish-un gran-ted was beyond irritatingIronDukes37 wrote:Current poll on the post gazette website (in the left column)
