Mario made the NHL look bad by shining the light of truth on their incompetence. That is unforgivable in the child-like mind of the NHL.

And Cooke is a player that committed much goonery in his day, on a team that has gotten a TON of exposure (due to Crosby) in NHL cities around the country. Therefore, many fans have seen his acts of goonery, and as they (the fans) already hate the Pens and Crosby for being so great-- Cooke became an easy target. He is no more dirty than several other guys, Torres being one of them. But most NHL fans couldn't pick Torres out of a lineup. Cooke, they certainly can since he's been seen a lot on TV (as a side effect of Crosby attention and Pens being a top 3 team over the last several years).
