Has anyone tried the Guinness Black Lager yet? Almost bought it last week, but got Sweetwater Motor Boat instead, which was pretty good.
It's not bad, a lot a flavor, as you would expect from Guinness. It's a lager so it's not as heavy as a stout
Had this tonight. Solid dark lager. Nothing spectacular, but definitely worth 6 pack.

Well, that goes to the difference in tastes, you actually like Sam Adams.

found some Great Lakes Christmas Ale while cleaning out basement closet. They are probably 6 years old, but it's go time, should compliment the few cans of PBR sitting in the back of the fridge.

Oh absolutely, it's all a matter of taste.

I don't like Sam Adams per se, but they make a very good cream stout. It is rated an "A" on BeerAdvocate

The beer doesn't taste any different, but certain particles in the yeast portion of the beer metabolize. You won't notice it, but it usually leads to bad stomach upset, excessive diahrrea, and hemherroids.

Drinking a Dark Horse Special Reserve Black Bier. Very heavy, noticeable but not overly smoky finish. Pretty good.

Also picked up a 4-pack of Sam Adams Imperial Stout.

Their imperial stout is very solid

Sam Adams gets a bad rap from some people because of their "large brewery" status, but most of their stuff is solid. Even the Boston Lager.

I agree about Sam Adams.... mostly solid stuff. If there aren't many options that's the beer that I'll go to.

Has anyone had Michelob Amber Bock? It's on sale at the local distributor for $13 a case, and I'm tempted to buy just as a cheap fridge-stocking beer for when friends are over. Thoughts?

You lost me at Michelob...

Actually, I've also wondered about the quality of these types of beers ( this one, bud select, whatever the miller one is). Just haven't wanted to waste money to try because my expectation is so low.

We have a beer distributor up here on Long Island that's doing something I've never heard of before.

They have about three dozen different craft beers on draft and the fill growlers and sell them or you can bring your own and they'll fill them for you (for a price obviously).

I didn't know this was legal in NY, has anyone anywhere else seen anything like this?

Not a distributor, but there are definitely bars/restaurants in the Burgh that do this.
