Too bad Varlamov decided to leave the crease and balance his checkbook, while Benn scored.

Talbot scores again. Guess he's not as worthless as some people claimed right after he signed elsewhere. Or maybe he decided to try something new: show up in the regular season and disappear in the playoffs.

It seems to me that the incident with Gabby has caused in Ovechkin a vigorous determination to use any game to prove himself and to hell with the rest of the team - hogging the puck, solo end to end rushes, cherrypicking rather than forechecking, it's all about him.
The Caps are feeding on the bottom of the barrel (Carolina, not Columbus, is the worst team in the league) and one wonders whether OV's ego and will prove costly down the line.

If you remove Filatov from your organization and get worse, you know there is a problem.

Rangers and Montreal game is a power play fest. Rangers power play is awful. They have the puck in the zone the whole time, but move it so slow that it's not dangerous at all. Montreal is starting to get the power plays now. Their power play looks better so far. 3-2 rangers after the rangers scored on 1 of their first 7 power plays (a 2 minute 2 man advantage).

I focused on Jagr tonight especially to see if I was too hard on him in the other thread, but I came away with the same conclusion. He doesn't backcheck. He doesn't play defense. He doesn't hit (saw 0 hits tonight yet again). He's really soft. His assist was the result of Devils' bad defense and that goal does not happen against a more competent opponent. Kunitz and Neil are the kind of wingers that I've come to appreciate now more than ever. Jagr looks to me like an aging skill player.
LOL :D

An aging skill player? What did you expect of a 40 year old? A stud flying up and down the ice like a rocket?

Funny about the backchecking, Flyers fans says they are shocked Jagr even plays defense. Jagr is second on the Flyers in +/-

I would say the truth is somehwere in between, Jagr is backchecking when needed, but he is not very good at playing defense.

The problem I see with Jagr is that he runs out of gas quickly, he still has it for the first 30 seconds, but then fades away so he needs short shifts.
