Cold against my cheek. My face was pressed against metal. I opened my eyes but saw nothing. Nothing with my physical eyes. But shapes presented themselves. They coalesced into a vision. In my hand I felt something hard: a polymer object. It was a weapon.

Unsteadily, I rose to my feet and braced myself against ... what? It was a bulkhead of the station. The barbarian was gone. The voice was gone. I was alone. But was I? What had I found? No, I was not alone. We were not alone. With my mind's eye, I found a window out into the vastness of space. I heaved a sigh and then doubled up my empty hand into a fist and punched the steel wall with all of my might. There was something I needed to find. Again I flung my fist into the wall. And again. Blood began to flow, but I didn't bother with it.

There is something. Something. Something.

Ahh. Then I began to see it.

I had to make a journey. A journey to find something of the commander's. A piece of the commander's mind.

"Ulu?" a voice said behind me. "My god, Ulu. I've been worried sick. Where have you been?"

I froze. Without turning, I knew it was Sophie.

The name "Ulu" felt foreign to me now. The expression I gave felt like the ones I received after the re-brandings I saw given to those interned on Sephalon VI that were deemed "unfit" for society. It felt beneath me, but the tone in which Sophie said it made me. feel. again. I whipped around to see this outline of bright hues and knew that her intentions were pure. The vibrant blues and greens that traced the familiar silhouette embraced me like the first sun of spring. I yearned to stay in that silhouette for a millennia, but was shunted by a swift jolt across my face that burned with effeminate scorn. "I thought you were dead" she said with disdain as what was the outline of her eyes turned a fiery red with anger and her chest a sullen purple shade. I scoffed. "This is the first time I've felt alive." I rebutted with a strange confidence that came from a place I had never known. She sunk deep into a thought and paused for what seemed like days. "You know what your journey is, don't you?" I nodded as if the words were too difficult to explicate why I was to leave her again. "Well, go... ....And don't tell me you'll be back soon." I smirked. As I clenched my fist as I aimed to return to the steel that kissed my fists with crimson, Sophie grabbed my hand, moved it to her face, and said "Scavenge the inner recesses of what you've been given and you will find what you are in search of." She gently kissed my hand, stepped back and uttered "And stay away from those with which your mind's eye sees as white--run. Promise me that, Ulu. Please?" I agreed almost immediately, unsure of what she meant.

She backed up, and vanished as quickly as she appeared. The sparkling remnants of green and blue fluttered and fell like dust settling. I returned to my work. I was to visit Pyraxia--the home world of the commander to investigate, and had ambitions of returning to Sophie as soon as my task was complete.

After what seemed like days, I arrived at my destination... Pyraxia. Certainly I would find the answers that I sought here. I was starting to become more comfortable with my gift.. It was almost as if I were gifted x-ray vision.

The people seem friendly here. It is very warm, and everywhere I look, I see varying shades of red. Though the mood is jovial, I can sense something is not quite right.

As I make my way out of the terminal, I am stricken with a paralyzing fear. It is all I can do to make myself take cover behind a nearby counter. As I wait, barely able to breathe, I wince as blinding white lights approach.

"Where is he?!" the commander asked angrily.

"I don't know, chief. He went this way... he couldn't have gotten far." responded the henchman.

"Unacceptable." the commander barked. "You have been outwitted by a blind man! Feel shame, you wretched pukes. Find him now or else you will face the pit."

The henchman shuddered audibly before responding. "That will not be necessary. We have this place locked down. The only way out is through the main doors. Or the sewers, but even the bravest would not dare tread there."

"You'd better hope that you're right." the commander remarked. "Move your ass."

The lights faded and finally I could breathe. But now I knew I had no choice but to face the dreader sewers of Pyraxia... home to horrors untold.
