Yeah...and what about Kopecky at $3M/year? I'm starting to get the feeling the Pens will not be very active unless it's via trade.winger wrote:Steve Montador Blackhawks 4 yrs at 2.75 m pr yr.. there is a madness going on right now that worries me about tomorrow

Guys, seriously, my bad. Listening to Madden still. He repeated what he said earlier but I had it wrong. He said his show spoke to people close to Lemieux and they said Lemieux firmly believes Jagr will wear a Penguin's jersey again. I had it backwards. Lots of heresay so again, take it FWIW. I sure hope he's right...

To pile on to this, Dejan said the same thing last night, that he had spoken to several FOM (Friends of Mario) and they felt the same way. I'm just not sure their gut feeling is worth a whole lot because ole Double-J is a giant head case. He probably doesn't know himself yet.malksby8771 wrote:Guys, seriously, my bad. Exactly. Teams need to get to the cap floor. I'm telling you right here, right now. Gagne will get close to 5M on the open market, Vrbata might get close to 4M, Leino could sign for less to remain a Flyer, but a team like Florida would offer him 4M in a heartbeat. Jagr at 2M will be considered a steal if he signs with us, trust me.

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
What ever happend to "owing Mario" for his successes and "playing for league minimun" for Mario. He said those things a year or two ago. In my mind, based on Jagr's words, the shouldn't be anything to mull over. If Pittsburgh is "where his heart is" as his agent stated earlier today, then why are we heading toward day 3 of a pending decision.
I was as excited as anyone else about the prospect (more nosolgia) of Jagr coming back. How quickly he reminds us of why this town washed our hands of him in the first place.

Lol. Only a headcase would sign a contract without considering all offers.tonysoprano wrote:To pile on to this, Dejan said the same thing last night, that he had spoken to several FOM (Friends of Mario) and they felt the same way. To be fair, the "no, no he should not" comment earlier was 100% sarcasm.AlexPKeaton wrote:Lol. Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
I kinda get that feeling too. I truly believe Jagr only wants to play one more season and retire in the NHL, preferably as a Penguin, so this decision is probably a tough one to him. He's got to be still thinking it over and I doubt we raise our offer in the mean time, thus not making it any easier for him.tonysoprano wrote:To pile on to this, Dejan said the same thing last night, that he had spoken to several FOM (Friends of Mario) and they felt the same way. Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
Well...I think they don't move on Jagr or Kennedy, it shows they don't want to be active. If they won't spend $2M to $2M on either one of those guys, what makes you think they're gonna grab Upshall, Vrbata, Jokinen? Before the cap floor was set, I really thought you'd see those guys all get right around $3M, maybe a tad less, but now? Those guys could get over $3M. I don't think Shero would spend that kind of money on those players. Jokinen might be the only guy I'd drop $3M on.tonysoprano wrote:If Jagr and Kennedy sign, they won't be active at all.Hugo Stiglitz wrote:Yeah...and what about Kopecky at $3M/year? Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
EJ Hradek just said that Pittsburgh needs to offer JJ some ancillary deals being that it is Pittsburgh and so much history with the team... ways to boost that 1.5 mil....
I'm sure they could think of a few!

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
How does the bonus thing work against a cap? If the Penguins are offering him less than $2M which is what I'm reading, could they offer him a bonus if he reaches a certain amount of goals or points without it hitting the cap?

If the Pens are offering him less than $2m then he has every right to hold out for other offers. We paid Ghost 2m.Hugo Stiglitz wrote:How does the bonus thing work against a cap? I think they count against the cap. At least how I read the CBA (page 187). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.Hugo Stiglitz wrote:How does the bonus thing work against a cap? What could be the logical reasoning behind offering Jagr below 2M? I assume Shero won't go out and overpay a UFA winger, especially in this shallow market. Thus, if we miss out on Jagr and sign Kennedy around 2.5M, we would have around 4M or 3.1M left if you include Tangradi. Why not add an extra few hundred thousand to get the 3rd best RW of all time signed to a 1 year deal to end his career in Pittsburgh? Doesn't make sense. Say it ain't so, SherO.

Free chips at the Rivers Casino? If we offer him this, does it count against the cap?
