And You Thought Sieve-Bass Was Bad...

Post by Mad City Mike »

Check out these stats for a former all star goalie in the last couple weeks.

GP: 4
Record: 1-3
Goals against average: 8.51
Save percentage: .714

His numbers for the entire month of January aren't much better.

GP: 9
Record: 3-6-0
GAA: 5.12
Save %: .835

So what happened to this former all star? My guess is it happened January 3, in his first game of the new year. He gave up 6 goals that night. Nothing remarkable about that. But what was remarkable is that he allowed those 6 goals to the lowly, moribund Pittsburgh Penguins. His performance that night sent him into a state of depression from which he has yet to recover. In fact, it seems to be getting worse, seeing his performance over the last couple weeks.

His name? Jose Theodore.

P.S. It will be interesting to see if the same fate befalls Olaf Kolzig, who did Theodore two better by allowing the woeful Penguins to put up a snowman.

Yeah, but in Kolzig's case, he has a lot of help when he puts an 8 on the board (or no help depending on how you look at it). He has generally been good for them this year. Theodore, especially over the last two months... not so much.
