I like their 2-7 record in game sevens. It's cute.

I also like the fact they have blown a 3-1 series lead a whopping three times. Their history is a delicious nugget of failure. I see no reason to fear a team whose past history is a ten pound brillo pad of fail.
They're due
I hope not, i think the karma of playing in the phone booth will keep them as hard luck losers. as Bobby Mac said earlier, EFF the caps!

I hate the Caps but I'll admit they look tough. They're putting it together at the right time of the season. The goals against is no joke, they've been one of the best in the league at preventing goals all season. The biggest thing for them is that they're starting to score more now, although they're still only 21st in the league in goals per game. I wouldn't bet on them in the playoffs - I put them in the same boat as the Canucks and Sharks. Until proven otherwise, I assume they're going to come up lame in the postseason.

At least they still have Boudreau coaching. When times are tough, you know he's going to start whining and crying and making excuses, and that mindset will trickle down. I still doubt they have the leadership that can get them through a tough series against a good team.

I agree with all of this. The one thing I would be curious about is the goals per game in the last month. 21st in the league all season sounds bad, but they were struggling to score for a long time. I bet they are in the top 10 in the last month if not top 5.

Going back to 2/16 when they beat Anaheim 7-6, they've averaged 2.75 goals per game, which is a bit higher than their season pace (2.67 per game) and would rank around the middle of the pack. They still don't look like a offensive power house, but they have been scoring a bit more lately. I still question whether or not their commitment to defense has also neutered their offense for good. If it's a one or the other thing, I don't think they're going to get by a truly good team in the playoffs.

Just for perspective, last year they averaged 3.82 goals per game and 2.77 goals against. This year they're at 2.67 goals per game and 2.34 goals against. It's actually a pretty sizable decrease in goal differential because their offense has become that much weaker despite the D being stronger. There hasn't been a Cup winner since the lockout that's average under three goals a game.

I read on another board from a Caps fan who said they started playing defense because they couldn't score. I guess that makes sense with how they've been playing. They tried playing the same way as previous years, but weren't scoring. So halfway through the season BB starts with his "defensive system" which is holding down the GA while they still can't score. Now they're starting to score and mostly holding down the GA. It'll be interesting to see if they can keep playing this way or revert back to the old way (lackadaisical on D) if they start thinking they found their scoring touch again.

Caps to sell season-ticket standing-room only tickets:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dc- ... _blog.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And yes, having standing-room season tickets entitles you to purchase tickets at the same location for next year’s playoffs. Don’t forget, gate prices for standing-roomers at the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals are projected at around $175 per, but account holders will only have to pay $107.

Those must be selling for pretty cheap, due to the obvious misspelling of "W"hining.

the "whining" shirts were on backorder due to their popularity, but I did manage to find a pic of one.
