WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, and IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.

These were the tenets that Big Brother preached into the homes of Oceania via the enormous telescreens day after day. But on this day, in Big Brother's first public appearance in decades, the proles had enough. Faced with ever-increasing food shortages, the proles charged the stage where Big Brother was explaining the latest great victory over Eurasia. Big Brother was assaulted by the crowd before the armed guards could react, and while they succeeded in immediately dispersing the crowd, they could not save the man who had ruled Oceania with an iron fist for so many years.

Big Brother - Troy Loney lay dead. It was night 2 in Oceania, and the proles had struck a major blow for true freedom. The Inner Party members and Ministry heads retreated into the night to discuss the appointment of a new Leader and their next move.

Tonite would be the night that the Party would take its revenge. Deep within the inner sanctum, a brief vote was held to select a new Big Brother from amongst the existing heads of the various ministries. The Minister of Truth was selected as the new Big Brother, and his reign began with great news. Two high ranking members of the Thought Police entered the room with a beaten and bloodied man dragging behind them. Emmanuel Goldstein (Kraftster) had been captured through the work of the Party! Goldstein was interrogated using the most inhumane methods known to man -- including being forced to read the lyrics to certain parodies of songs using Penguins references -- and quickly revealed that he had managed to give away the last two copies of "the book" -- The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism. Goldstein was quickly and ruthlessly forced into Room 101 to face the thing he feared the most -- trying a medical malpractice defense case in front of a Philadelphia jury (/s/ law joke).

I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that pfidc is bad and put an early vote on troy to avoid suspicion. They likely knew troy wouldn't last long so sacrificing him wouldn't be a bad idea.
