Why would you want it to implode? An all sports-talk station with all local shows / hosts is great for the Pittsburgh sports fan. They do have some personnel issues to work out, and need to tweak a number of things, but by no means should any Pittsburgh sports fan want them to implode.
Why? Schadenfreude, mostly. There is a tremendous amount of untapped and underutilized radio talent in this region, and CBS/The Fan failed to take advantage of hardly any of it. Chris Mueller was it. The only other saving grace right now is it appears they've hired Tom Grimm for the weekends.
Grimm should have been one of the first calls to do the afternoon drive when the station launched. I can tolerate John Seibel, but he's more of a morning guy to me. Giannotti has been an okay hire, but nothing outstanding.
They could have mined a lot of underappreciated talent in the region - not just Pittsburgh, but parts of Ohio and NW PA and elsewhere - and done a lot better than they have. Instead they hired a ton of CBS people or tapped into the Post-Gazette pipeline.
Vinnie worked for a CBS affiliate prior to moving to Seattle. Paul Alexander used to work for KDKA-TV (CBS). Gregg Giannotti came from WFAN in NY, owned by CBS. Ron Cook and Colin Dunlap are both from the PG.
