Re: LGP Politcal Discussion Thread
Whoever said that poster of Obama made up like the Joker is racist, give me a friggin break. It was capitalizing on a popular pop culture character who was hellbent on destroying the country. And by the way....the guy that made a poster is a fellow Democrat, Kucinich supporter, and Chicago resident....not a right wing fanatic as some on here may believe.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washing ... rtist.html
Has anyone else noticed something? For the first six months or so of Obama's presidency, we were in the "post-racial" period. Obama "transcended" petty politics and race, and was going to be the great unifier. Now that the public is starting to turn against his policies based on legitimate concerns, all of a sudden the race-baiters are out in force.
I am sick and tired of hearing about how criticism of Obama in any fashion is rooted in racism. That senile old idiot Jimmy Carter claimed yesterday that the overwhelming portion of the criticism aimed at the president is based on race. Are you kidding me? I would be ECSTATIC if JC Watts or Michael Steele was president. It's not because he is black....it's because his policies are going to wreak havoc on the economy. I could start a list, but let's just take cap and trade for example. There is a reason other countries throughout the world are DROPPING these regulations, even as we commit economic suicide. Australia, after only a couple years, repealed cap and trade legislation because it was destroying their economy. But for me to criticize the president on this fact, there are "undertones of racism".
And naturally, the media/left finds the most egghead whacko militia members to get their sound bites. I am not talking about the idiots running around calling Obama a Muslim/terrorist etc. Name me one prominent, respected conservative that has directed racist rhetoric at the president? And I mean a legitimate example. It's sad and pathetic that the Left has resorted to playing the old-fashioned race card now that the honeymoon period is over.
Mark my words.....this is going to come back to crush the Democrats. Obama was elected to office on the backs of WHITE MODERATES. Now imagine you are a white moderate who voted for Obama, realized you didn't vote for what he is dishing out now, and now you are being labeled a racist despite the fact you cast your vote for the man. Are you going to vote to reelect him now? Absolutely not.
Sorry about the rant...but it just infuriates me how people turn the issue of race into a friggin political ace in the hole. The laughable thing is, no one is buying it anymore. When Charlie Rangel/Jimmy Carter/Keith Olbermann/Chris Matthews assert that the tea parties/Joe Wilson/Republicans are racist, the public gets disgusted. And they think they are doing President Obama a favor by propping him up with the race card crutch...when in fact they are doing the opposite.

The picture of the Joker poster artist....he is Arab. Talks about how he tried to lay low after it came out because most people in Chicago saw him as "the second coming of Christ". I wish that was hyperbole, but it's not. I saw plenty of that down here in Philly.

Re: LGP Politcal Discussion Thread
I really wish it wasn't an issue....I am tired of hearing about it. It says something in this country when critics of the president immediately get a "racist" label tagged to them, regardless of what the dialogue is. Here's a fact: the LEFT/Democratic Party is the primary reason race is still such a problem in America. I can say that statement with 100% certainty. And why is it so important that race remains an issue? The Democrats know they need blacks to be afraid of the Republican KKK Boogeyman. Over 90% of blacks vote for Democrats...if you ask them why they do, most of them would probably answer "because they help us and the Republicans are racist rich white folks" (or something along those lines).doublem wrote:And people say race isn't an issue in this country anymore.
It is in the best interest of the Democratic Party to keep racial tension alive and well....yet the Republicans are always the ones made out to be the ignorant racists. It's a sad state of affairs

Really? It has nothing to do with hundreds of years of racial tensions, and one race not having the same rights as another? Maybe black people vote for Democrats becasue at one point they said,"hey you can have the same rights as white people". Republicans would never use anything like race to get votes. They only use fear and religion. Here's a fact: the LEFT/Democratic Party is the primary reason race is still such a problem in America

Wow........................really? Guess which party was founded prior to the Civil War on the basis of the abolition of slavery and maintenance of the Union? The Republican Party. Guess which party was the driving force behind the civil rights legislation of the 50s and 60s? The Republican Party. The DEMOCRATS were the ones that resisted civil rights legislation for as long as possible...remember George Wallace? Remember Charlton Heston proudly marching with Sidney Poitier and Martin Luther King Jr. in the civil rights march? I am so tired of hearing about how the Republicans tried to keep civil rights away from blacks. It is a historical lie that is unfortunately propagated everywhere.doublem wrote:Really? Now, if you mean that the Republican Party believes that blacks shouldn't have MORE rights than whites (affirmative action, for example), then I guess they are guilty as charged. the Republicans are guilty of believing that both black and white should be treated the same, regardless of color. For shame....

Re: LGP Politcal Discussion Thread
Without whites voting for Obama, he would not be the president.
edit: that may come off wrong...
I'm saying, how can race be an issue when so many whites voted for an african american president? I think the fact that the feeling I get having a black president is "ok, thats cool" says something. It just seems normal to me.
Now...granted I do understand the monumentous occasion having a black man being elected to the highest point of our country is, but his race never entered my mind when dealing with his views and plans.

Yea, the Rep. are still the party of Lincoln. Maybe I should change the word and say conservatives. Since parties really don't mean that much historically. Since the Dems used to be the party of white southern conservatives.shafnutz05 wrote:Wow........................really? Re: LGP Politcal Discussion Thread
A day or two ago we had a rep from Georgia saying "without a public spanking of Joe Wilson, we'll have the KKK riding through the country side again." How can he be serious? A guy breaks house decorum (and it wasn't the first time that happened) and says a true statement, and now Jimmy Carter and Brenda Lee and all these other CBC members and pundits are saying that was because he is a racist and they're fueling this race fire that they started themselves.
I want to seriously ask these people, in what context is it ok to criticize Obama given I am a white male (and as such I am guilty for things that happened decades and centuries before I was born)? Will it ever be ok? Is it ok if Michael Steele or Lynn Swann or Alan Keyes to do it, or will Al Sharpton refer to them in this way:

Anyone can criticize the president, no one should have a problem with that, but I would say there has been a racial element to some of the protests and other things that I have seen. Not that it should really be that shocking, I don't think we need to talk about race all the time, and I would say both sides have been doing that.

This is a debate I really don't want to get into right now....but I am talking about cap and trade, in particular. I don't have a problem with policies that ensure we don't have companies behaving with gross irresponsibility that leads to crises like this. Let's not forget, the government's invovlement had a pretty major role in how this crisis started (read: Freddie and Fannie, housing crisis). Capitalism did not lead to the economic crisis. Immoral and irresponsible executives/politicians did. If Obama gets this asinine cap and trade legislation passed, you can say hello to double digit unemployment from now to eternity.Gaucho wrote:... unlike the swell system that only led to the biggest worldwide economical crisis since WWII.shafnutz05 wrote:...it's because his policies are going to wreak havoc on the economy.

Back to this again...............as far as I can tell, the main Republican force right now is opposition to Obama's economic and healthcare policies. Now, I know you would love for Dick Cheney/John Ashcroft/George W Bush/Karl Rove back in the spotlight to fulfill the "evil right-wing fearmongering conservative" quota, but they aren't. Explain to me, where in the last nine months, Republicans have scared people to death because of "evil commies and terrorists". THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION WAS OVER NINE MONTHS AGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really? One guy's incompetence spoils the whole bag?Firebird wrote:Oh, an according to Carter (who, by the way, is an excellent example of the failure of anything liberal)
Why is that not true of Bush and conservatism? Oh, right, Bush wasn't conservative.
OK, what about Reagan's massive deficits and expansionist governance? Oh, right, Reagan wasn't conservative. Or Congress made him do it. Or whatever.
I have to admit, the creation of an ideology that is both perfect in its construction but utterly ahistorical is a stunning achievement. Without any past failures to cite, because of course any failure must by definition not have been a true example of the ideology, it makes your position infallible. You guys have a lot in common with religious fundamentalists.
