Game 37 vs. Bruins - Thoughts from the Morning After

Post by IntangibleBeer »

  • OMG what a roller coaster of a game and ultimate win for the Penguins! :fist: The game had more twists and turns than a West Virginia back road. The Bruins are a very tough customer, especially in their own building, and yet the Pens prevailed despite so-so goal-tending and (at times) bad defensive efforts. 5 goals were scored in a little over 7 minutes as the Pens jumped out to a 5-2 lead. Game should have been over, but the Pens took their foot off the gas and Bruins wouldn't accept being embarrassed in their own building.
  • Scoring a SHG on the 2-0 breakaway would probably have iced the victory early, but somehow it didn't happen. Later the Pens gave up a shorty.
  • Graves played hard (scored!) and in my mind atoned for his screw ups in the Caps game.
  • Sid was everywhere in this game. His dash up the ice and pass to Jake - fabulous. But his sprint to negate icing at the end of the game was no less astonishing - pure focus and hustle. And of course, the GWG on the PP. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
  • DOC with a goal and an assist - very strong game. I like this guy.
  • Eller with a goal and another strong game.
  • Letang - it's a ying and yang thing with him, isn't it? Gets undressed by Marchand's goal and springs Crosby with a superb pass.
  • Geno, WTF? -2 for the game and invisible. When he was on the ice he looked like he was doing the warm-up skate. :face:

I'm confused just how we won that.

I'll take the win and the points. Boston is a pesky opponent and getting six past them is always nice. Previously, the Pens would've broken down and lost 7-5 after the Marchand shortie. They *are* getting better at recovering from these things, at least.

They won it by running up the score early, then holding on for dear life! That and Crosby.

Maybe the Bruins lost because Marchand had too much praise for Crosby:

Ugly game, running home with 2 points. We need Jarry to win against Buffalo.

Someone today, last night described Sid the heartbeat of the pens!
He is and it is going strong.

I think this game shows why it's hard for management to embrace a full rebuild. Crosby has more stretches of a games where he's not noticeable now than when he was younger, but he's still very good more often than not, and he still has the fire to win. How do you tell that guy that you're trading Guentzel for picks and prospects at the deadline?
