Mark Eaton is potentially back in the organization after signing a PTO with the Baby Pens.

He will have to clear waivers if he's recalled correct?

As if we needed more defensive depth. He'll be good for WB-S, though.

He seemed to work well in our system before, don't see a downside.

Interesting.
A good plugin for injury situations, at a minimum.

Not sure what happened to him that he couldn't at least be a 5-6 in the NHL. A known down in WBS as depth. Thats a plus.

Re: Baby Pens sign Eaton to PTO
I don't think so. It's an AHL only contract good for up to 25 games. I think he is free to sign with any NHL team at any point right now. WBS lost their three best defenseman, Eaton is a solid guy and knows the Pens system. I'm sure this is mutally beneficial to both teams.
Also, remember there is no roster limit after the trade deadline. The 25 games for the PTO is up on 3/20, 5 games shy of April 3. He will be in game shape and if there are no other options for depth I'd love to have Eaton at practices.

Every team has their Strait's and Bortuzzo's they don't want to lose to waivers just yet. things will shake out in the next couple weeks.Idoit40fans wrote:Not sure what happened to him that he couldn't at least be a 5-6 in the NHL. A known down in WBS as depth. Thats a plus.

I'll never forget his huge playoff goal vs. the Flyers (Game 6, conf. qtrs.).

Played a big role in the Cup run in '09. Won't forget a lot of things he did.Lt. Dish wrote:I'll never forget his huge playoff goal vs. the Flyers (Game 6, conf. qtrs.).

Re: Baby Pens sign Eaton to PTO
The improbability of Eaton scoring, followed by the Crosby bat the puck in out of the air... that sequence played out not all that differently than the run on the North Stars in game 6 - started by the most improbable of scorers but building from there.Lt. Re: Baby Pens sign Eaton to PTO
I thought the Red Wings might be in on Eaton, with all of their injuries at D. Ian White now has a cut calf muscle from a skate injury. Carlo Colaiacovo, Ericsson, Kindl are all out...

IIRC, he had a goal in the next round vs. the Caps, too. And, overall, good sound D throughout the run. I was sad to see him go.Pitt87 wrote:Played a big role in the Cup run in '09. Re: Baby Pens sign Eaton to PTO
Very good point. I think I'd feel much more comfortable giving a guy like Eaton bottom pairing minutes in the event of injury to one of the six regulars than giving the minutes to a rookie like Bortuzzo, who rarely played in regular season games.DelPen wrote:I don't think so. It's possible Lovejoy and/or Bortuzzo are on their way out if Eaton has a successful PTO. Then Eaton is the reserve.

Shero just being a good guy and giving him some playing time. Wouldn't read much more into it. The guys been out of a job for a long time and passed over by many clubs needing D men recently. Best of luck nonetheless. Was a good foot soldier.

Hard to leave the game. Eaton's has had some injuries to deal with while on the island.
Good luck to him.
