After four highly decorated seasons with the WBS Penguins, John Curry will head across the pond to play for the German league’s Hamburg Freezers next season.
Curry leaves the Penguins as the franchise’s all-time leader in wins in both the regular season and the playoffs.
It’s not a surprising development. Curry’s contract was up and Brad Thiessen has emerged as the No. 3 goaltender in the organization. Bringing Curry back as a No. 4 just wasn’t a real viable option. A team can’t pay its fourth goaltender what Curry deserves to be paid based on his body of work.
