Here’s hoping Puustinen’s play continues.FLPensFan wrote:WBS won their season opener 2-1 against Lehigh Valley. Lindberg was in goal for the Penguins. Goals came from Puustinen and Almari.

Interesting to see that the rookie Lindberg got the start for the opener. His progress this year should be one to follow on that team.

Lindberg was 1st star stopping 30 of 31 shots, giving up a powerplay goal.
Bellerive led the team with 4 shots. Puustinen had 3 shots as did Zohorna and Riikola. Sure is a big Finnish influence on the Baby Pens.Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is off to a 1-0-0-0 start to the season thanks in large part to rookie goaltender Filip Lindberg. Making his pro debut after capturing the NCAA Men’s Hockey National Championship with the University of Massachusetts, Lindberg turned aside 30 of the 31 shots he faced to earn the win in front of 5,785 riled-up Penguins fans.
Lindberg and the Penguins held onto their 1-0 lead for close to 30 minutes of play, all while being forced to navigate several penalty kills. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was a perfect four-for-four on the P.K. until Tyson Foerster pulled the Phantoms even on their fifth man-advantage of the contest. Foerster’s tying goal arrived with 2:29 left in second period.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton answered quickly at the start of the third, as Niclas Almari ripped a wrist shot past Felix Sandström just 69 seconds into the frame.
Lindberg handled his job in the crease the rest of the way out, securing the opening-night triumph for the Penguins.
Finland made a clean sweep of the three stars of the game. Puustinen was named the game’s third star, game-winning goal-scorer Almari was given the second star, while Lindberg’s shining performance earned him first-star honors.

Re: WBS Penguins Update Thread
I was looking at some highlights from yesterdays game, a 4-1 loss to Charlotte. Felix Robert scored a rebound goal on a shot from Puustinen. It was a 6 on 4 goal as the Pens had pulled their goalie with only a couple minutes left. Rikola picked up the other assist, his second of the season.
Tommy Nappier was in net. He gave up 3 goals on 31 shots.
D’Orio and Ortiz have been re-assigned to Wheeling. Looking forward to see what Lindberg can do this season.

Another win for Lindberg. Stopped 30 of 31 shots and WBS won it in OT 2-1.
In 2 games he’s given up 2 goals and stopped 60 of 62 shots.
Here’s to hopin’!

Watched the WBS - LV Phantom game today. Another OT win but with Domingue in goal today. The Phantoms haven't got a point yet. Nice to see Joseph getting lots of playing time with also doing a lot of offensive stuff.

Re: WBS Penguins Update Thread
I just took a quick look at the WBS site to see how some guys are doing. Not a lot of details, but the team is 3-1. Zohorna has played all 4 games, apparently at center, but has yet to record a point. Angello hasn't played a game yet, leading me to believe it's medical. Hallandar has his 1st goal, and Bjorkqvist both have scored goals. Bellerive has 2 assists in 3 games, the same as Riikola. Poulin and Legare each have an assist in 4 games.
The standouts are easy to identify. Very early, but promising. Puustinen has 3 goals and an assist in 4 games, and scored both goals for WBS Sunday. Filip Lindberg has 2 starts, and is 2-0, with a .98 GAA and save % of .968.

Lindberg takes DeSmith's (UFA) roster spot next year. Then see what happens with Jarry (UFA) and Lindberg (RFA) for the following year.

Good article on Poulin. Hoping for a better second half.
