Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
I know it's still early as it were but honestly, I'm pretty surprised we're almost a week into July and he hasn't extended.
Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
I'll get worried if it's not done before the season starts.
Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
I'm going to be... I'm not even sure the right word... angry? furious? filled with incredulous rage, disbelief and disappointment?, if of the 3 "stars", he ends up leaving and we kept the other two who definitely should have been let go years ago but we kept like imbeciles because, you know, retiring together is more important than the good of the organization.
I still expect him to resign but so far it's strange it hasn't happened.

Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
I wouldn't be surprised if this took awhile to sort out. I can imagine Crosby is weighing his desire to win with his wanting to stay with the same franchise his entire career. This franchise is such a mess right now that I don't think it's a cut and dry decision for him. He might realize that staying with one team his entire career will mean he'll see the arc of building to glory to rebuilding and if he goes to, let's say Colorado, he might win another cup but lose the one team legacy. I can't see a scenario where he wins another cup with the Penguins so if he stays it's for his legacy.
Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
If Sid leaves, I think the other two will be traded shortly after. If Sid intends to leave, I could see the 3 of them traded at the next deadline, which might not be that bad of a thing to be honest with you. Though no trade or signing matters if Sullivan is the coach.Antonio wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 11:53 am I'm going to be... Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
I want Sid to be able to use his talents in the right place. We are going no where fast. Might as well let him go chase a cup. No reason to sign here under Sully and the old slow, same tired system any longer. It’s insanity. They won’t even admit they have a problem and FIRE SULLY!

Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
I don't disagree with the assessment that if he leaves the others will be moved. Although honestly, I don't think anyone wants Malkin and he will probably just retire and will be stuck with the 35 plus contract unless he retires at the end of it. He already doesn't seem like he cares about playing anymore though and is kind of ready to be done.
The great irony is that if they had been moved when they should have been moved, the team could very realistically be in a position where Crosby wouldn't need to contemplate leaving, if that is indeed the case, because there were definitely right moves on the table that could have made this team far better right now than the mess it is.

I think it's a little strange that this extension process is so hush-hush. KD said that Sid is told what the plan is and what players are being brought in. Pens have a ton of cap space next season, so it's not about money.
Just hope he signs soon. Nobody needs/wants a distraction into the season. I don't see Sid doing that either.

Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
Every reporter in town, however, says its not in Sid's nature to leave, that he wants to be here for his entire career....despite what all the Canadian media dreams about every night.
That said, if Sid ever did say he needed the team to be more competitive for him to stay, I think Dubas would have to counter with...I can make the team more competitive, but I cannot promise that I can keep Malkin, Letang and Karlsson here through that process. Cannot have it both ways.
Bucci had an interesting tweet this morning:

Of course he wants to stay here, but probably better said that he wants to stay and have a chance to win here. Time will tell what he is willing to sacrifice on the backend of his career because it’s not gonna happen here unless the team trades all his buddies (and even that doesn’t guarantee anything).

Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
Crosby has to deal with the fact that we're not a contender for the 2024-25 campaign. That we are a long shot to even make the playoffs. And perhaps realizing the same was true for last season.
Maybe he waits to see how we start the season and make up his mind then. He's under no obligation.
On the other end, I expect Dubas will do just about anything to keep Sid in town until he decides to retire. At least in terms of personal contract negotiations. Dubas is I suspect in a soft rebuild mode currently, trying to not blow up everything and ease us down into lottery territory if that's our fate, rather than tank hard. Sid can't like to see the team get worse around him. Our top six has Guentzel and Smith out, Bunting in. Draft picks won't help Crosby.
I figure Crosby hasn't figured out what he wants yet and Dubas isn't helping the Pens' chances of retaining his services by trying to rebuild. No news is good news for now.

Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
Rossi has an article out this morning saying a Crosby contract is close and that the potential deal is being viewed by both sides as “a commitment to Pittsburgh,” a team and league source said.
Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
Only once Eklund says it's a done deal, E5.

Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
Colorado still has 1st rounders in 26 and 27.
I'll take both of those, a prospect and Mittelstad or Girard. Something along those lines.
Or just all their draft picks for the next 2 years lol.
The return had better be insane if he is traded, which we should only do if Sid WANTS to go.
Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
Rossi said "multiple" sources involved in the process have confirmed the contract is close....Hopefully.
Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
I don't understand the whole Crosby talk going on here. Never once has anyone, Pens management, reporters, friends, family, ever said Crosby would want to leave Pittsburgh. Contrary, Crosby himself has stated repeatedly that he has no intentions of ever donning another jersey and that his intentions since he got here was to end his career here. Crosby is an honest man. Why would anyone second guess him?
Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
Because Canadian media likes to fantasize about Crosby leaving Pittsburgh, for either Montreal or to play with his buddies.
They need clicks and don't want him to be a Penguin for life.

Think it's mostly due to team fans that have beaten the drum on his competitiveness and drive to win for all the years realizing he won't have the opportunity to win anymore here. The view that he may WANT to stay but WANT to win more isn't that far-fetched to believe.Pitts wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 12:42 pm I don't understand the whole Crosby talk going on here. It is far-feched to me. Nothing Crosby has ever said or done suggests he would want to win with another team.Cow_Master66 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 1:35 pmThink it's mostly due to team fans that have beaten the drum on his competitiveness and drive to win for all the years realizing he won't have the opportunity to win anymore here. I don't think he is leaving but I did expect a contract signed within a day or so of the 1st.

From Twitter: Chris Johnston on the Penguins now that the Crosby extension is close to being done (SDP): "They have to try and win, they have to make some bold trades"
