It's a step up from Guinness, but I don't think it beats other stouts.

They also have Euphoria, which is basically a brown ale with a toffee aftertaste. Sounds gimmicky, but the toffee aftertaste isn't overkill.the wicked child wrote:Other than the serum, I've had:count2infinity wrote:I was pleasantly surprised with Serum. I never really tried much from Duclaw because it all seemed really gimicky (Southern Teir to the next level), but Serum was good. Might have to try more of their stuff.
Sweet Baby Jesus
HellRazer IPA
Bare Ass Blonde
HelLRazer was pretty good... at least I thought it stood out among a lot of the IPAs I tried at the summer beerfest. the blonde was meh. I know how you feel about pb porters, so forget the SBj if you haven't already tried it.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Weihenstephaner original. I'm not much of a lager guy, but this is pretty darn good... for a lager. It has the typical quality of a Weihenstephaner beer, but it's a german lager instead of a wheat beer.
if you like german lagers and see it on tap, maybe throw one down. Otherwise I wouldn't go out of your way over this.
It's a nice sidecar to the pizza I'm currently nomming however.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Glad to see a review of this version. It is readily available to me and I have been tempted to pick up a bottle and offer it up in trade. The standard version, bomber bottle, is really tasty. I figured the 'older' would pack a punch.shmenguin wrote:Had port brewing's older viscosity. It's barrel aged old viscosity and costs a zillion dollars. Very boozy and bourbony, which is good, but there was pretty much nothing else going on. Overall it was disappointing...but I wouldn't turn one down.

It just doesn't have those sweet notes that make KBS and BCBS amazing. It's still wonderful and I would buy it on the reg if it was half the price it is now. But it should be better for that money.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Went to Caliente last night before Mezzo before Lewis Black.
Jolly Pumpkin Oro de Calabaza. JP knows funk so incredibly well. I could drink this stuff all the time.
Alesmith IPA. Really disappointing. For the hype, I expected way better. It was like a poor man's GF West Coast IPA, which isn't a beer I fancy all that much because it is so heavy on the bitter pine finish.
Stone Double Bastard is crazy smooth for 11.7%. Tastes like a 7% beer.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
this week in beeravocate.com butthurt...beer nerds think it's wrong to call stores and ask them if they're carrying a special release. apparently if you don't shop at a store year round, it's outrageous of you to go there when KBS or BCBS comes out.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
beer managers get annoyed at the incessant phone calls. and they think it's unfair to the regulars who they're buddies with that vultures come in and poach the good stuff.slappybrown wrote:That is bizarre.
because apparently selling beer isn't actually a real business. and it's somehow a BAD thing when you get new customers into your store.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
As an owner, you can put stuff behind the counter and sell it to who you want rather than everyone. The one place here does that with certain limited releases. Unless you go in and say you saw it on their facebook, you can't buy it.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
a friend of mine split a bourbon county vanilla rye with me and a few others at a party yesterday. it was probably the best beer i've ever tasted. unreal.
he broke out a bourbon county coffee stout as well. i think i actually liked regular BCBS better, which was surprising.

Stone smoked chocolate orange porter is amazing. You can taste the chocolate first, then the orange, followed up by a smokey undertone. But not too smokey.

So what does Ten Fidy normally run?
I saw a four pack at Whole Foods for $15.99.

Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen was enjoyable, but not something I would have too often.count2infinity wrote:I always shy away from smoked beers... always taste like campfires to me.

That's what I was afraid of. But it wasn't overpowering at all. Kind of reminded me of smores, oddly enough. The smoky flavor the chocolate picks up from the campfire.count2infinity wrote:I always shy away from smoked beers... always taste like campfires to me.

I was really bummed out by the Stone smoked choc. orange. Easily the most average beer I've had from them.
