Speaking of, I really missed a chance on this one. Before I knew much about what was what in the craft beer world, I strolled into House of 1000 Beers one day and had the chance to buy the Westy 12. I decided it was too expensive and bought a sour instead.

Normally I save the best for last.
Wat
If I get a mixed pack, I tend to drink the ones I don't want as much 1st.

I also don't really share my beer once it makes it to my fridge.

Corsendonk Christmas Ale. Pretty good. Slightly bitter, some spices.

Correct. If I'm drinking at home, the most I'll do is 1 or 2. I tend to leave the good ones for the nights when I only plan on having one, and after I drink the ones I'm not sure I'll enjoy.

Got my drawing for the 12 beers of Xmas today...

amber/brown/red ale
ipa/pale
stout/porter
wine/mead/cider

I have a pretty good idea where I'm going to go with most of them, but I wouldn't mind some potential suggestions for the amber/brown/red ale... not really my area of expertise. I'm likely going to do my shopping @ Hal's in the North Hills, so keep that in mind. Decent selection, prob not anything uber rare there though.

I feel like complex Belgian beers are kind of a crap shoot, so getting a westy could be a bit of a let down. When I got my case of rochefort last year, it seemed like every one tasted different. Some weren't even that good. St bernardus is a lot more consistent but not nearly as much stuff goes on in that beer. Pretty sure I've heard that westy skews closer to a rochefort.

Picked up some terrapin wake and bake, looking forward to this one. Had a Drakes drakonik last night, it was very nice.

So strange that you brought up the wake and bake because I'm looking for the cinnamon roll'd that is based off of it.

I didn't know they made such a thing, just looked it up, that sounds delicious. Let me know if you find it anywhere.

Drinking Great Divide's Peach Grand Cru. It doesn't taste like 12%, but unfortunately there's no peach taste to it either.

Rochefort 6...I like 8. I love 10. 6 is not at all what I was looking for. It was basically a golden ale and not a dark ale like its superiors. Don't care for that style. Smelled a lot better than it tasted.

The best bet would be to find a nice local brewery - but I have no idea if there are any out your way.

If you want to buy something from the store, you need to go Angry Orchard, IMO. They are gluten free, I believe which should be a bonus for you. The variety pack comes with regular, cinnamon, ginger and green apple... all very drinkable, but the cinnamon is my personal favorite.

There are some other brands like Woodchuck, Ace, McKenzie's... the offerings I've tried from them ranged from good to meh depending on the style. I'd rank all of the AOs I've tried above those though.

Given the opportunity, I would drink one of Arsenal Cider House's offerings over any of the aforementioned any day, but that is a local place that does Growlers... not very helpful to you. :pop:
