Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I don't really like the Monk's, MWB, fwiw.
If you want to stick with the Flanders Red, my favorite by far is Cuvée Des Jacobins Rouge. Easier to find option would be Duchesse de Bourgogne. That was the entry level red before Monks came around. Best American option would be Bruery Oude Tart.
If you'd go for an American wild ale, the New Holland Blue Sunday Sour is pretty widely available, I think. They're probably not not funky, but I'm not ready to say its funkiness you don't like just because I don't think monks is funky in the way wild ales are.
Can you get New Belgium? The La Folie is fantastic.
Expensive options would be any of the Russian river wild ales or Lost Abbey Red Poppy ale. The RRs are the best sours in the world as far as I'm concerned.

New Belgium is available here. I'll have to try some of those you suggest. Sadly, Russian River anything isn't here.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
My wife got me beer of the month club for my anniversary present. My first shipment arrived today. St. Bernard brewery and D.L. Geary Brewing were the featured breweries this month. Came with a kolsch and a black kolsch from the former and an english pale ale and english strong ale from the latter.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Had the Pumking last night. Of all of the pumpkin flavored brews, this one appeals to me most. The first couple of sips were all sweet malt and carbonation. From there, the spices took over and really opened up as the beer warmed a bit. First rate flavor and nose. Heavy beer to consume more than one, but 'tis the season to enjoy a little spiced pumpkin pie.
Good stuff.

Have you tried their Warlock yet? It's a pumpkin stout. I like it better than the Pumking.BigMcK wrote:Had the Pumking last night. Of all of the pumpkin flavored brews, this one appeals to me most. Warlock >>>>> Pumking for me, though I admittedly wasn't crazy about the latter and thought the former was excellent.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Sierra Nevada / Boulevard Terra Incognita tonight. I'm pretty excited to try this.
Also looking forward to the Ballast Point Victory at Sea to follow that up.Terra Incognita’s third rendition features complex and earthy malt flavors enhanced by a masterful blend of character from barrel aging in both red wine and bourbon barrels that add notes of tart fruit, vanilla, and coconut.
The 2014 edition does not include the wild yeast Brettanomyces. It is a 55% blend of wine barrel ale, 32% bourbon barrel aged ale, and 13% fresh ale. The base beer is a hoppy, imperial brown ale.

Had Fireside Chat at Marios in Shadyside. Not a bad beer. Didn't realize it was 7.8% before I ordered it.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Sierra Nevada Terra incognita was superb. Once the cork was popped, it smelled like a red wine. The taste was slightly sweet, just a little bourbon in there and ended with chocolate. It was a pretty heavy brown color. Never really had something like this.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I don't have a problem with that at all. I'll get my Mongolian war helmet ready. I'm sure 3 kids can fit in too, right? Their bones probably aren't bonded yet, so that will help if we need to get them in any awkward places (safety first).canaan wrote:I'll pick you up on my Indian...you don't have a problem riding in the side car, right?
