Are Domi or any of the other 'Yotes prospects first-line material? The only one I could possibly see is Domi, but I think they need a better center (like, say, McDavid :P ).

Domi has Mike Ribeiro+ upside. Could be a weaker first line player. He has first line skill, no question about that, I just wonder how he will be as a pro in terms of applying himself and making himself better and adjusting for the fact that he cannot skate circles around an entire PK in the NHL for two minutes and then zip a cross-seam pass for an easy tap-in at the far post...

Having met him in the past, I'm not a fan of his attitude or behavior...but kids will be kids sometimes...you just hope for the sake of the Desert Dogs that he gets the mental part of being a pro when that opportunity presents itself in a few months...if the brain clicks with the skill set, look out because he can really play...

Does anybody have thoughts on Klas Dahlbeck? Other than the fact that he has a killer name of course

Domi has that attitude that his **** don't stink because his daddy is best buds with Le Magnifique and he grew up in a NHL locker room.

I like Dahlbeck, not major upside. But he's a heavier player, skates very well for his size and he's smart and efficient defensively. Good stick, leans on you well, plays the right way, good communicator on the rink, has a high attention to detail. I'm not sure the offensive upside is that big, but he's a good smart defensive-minded player.

meow's word for him above is about as good of a word as you could come up with for him...

Swedish Rob Scuderi with better puck skills in his own zone. Crisper 1st pass. Handles forecheckers better because he is more confident with the puck. He should have a long career, most definitely.

I know I am in the minority, but I'd probably pay Phaneuf that in the right situation.

Boychuk has been awesome this year, but man, that's a lot of term and a lot of money for probably a mid-pairing guy...I'd take Boychuk over Phaneuf, but that contract is a spicy meatball...

Boychuk for 7 years at 6 mil...yikes. I like him, but that's definitely an overpayment. That will be probably his last contract...he's 31 right now.

They will be paying Leddy and Boychuk starting next season, 11.5 per year for the next 7 years. They will be their top pairing for a long time to come. It makes sense for them, they have a lot of youth coming into their primes over that time period. We'll see how it works out.

That's the problem. They are paying two middle pair guys as top pair guys.

I don't understand how the big shot gets more TOI than the end to end lugger and the pp savvy/distributor veteran. Then again, I'm not a NHL coach.

The Isles risking losing an impactful free agent(s)...namely, their top pair...seems like a poorer strategy than keeping them for an extra million per a piece...

Even so, their top-4 is only sitting at $18ish million...

I thought Vis was hurt at some point, then just became the odd man out there. He's getting older and his play has dropped as a result.
