First time I had it, really good. Not sure if I've ever had a Double Bock either but was great. I love strong beer.Kraftster wrote:Troegenator! So good.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Hoptoberfest from Church Brew Works was excellent.
I'm not a big fan of Octoberfest beers, and I love IPA...so a hop infused octoberfest is the compromise for Troy Loney

22 oz great lakes nosferatu for five bucks at mad Mex. I have heard that this years nosferatu isn't as hoppy but it's one of my favorite fall seasonals.

Hoptober from New Belguim is pretty solid as well.Troy Loney wrote:Hoptoberfest from Church Brew Works was excellent.

The 2011 nosferatu is great so any hop fans should seek it out.
Dead reckoning porter - love it, not sure why troegs doesn't make it available year round. It's an august release, which is surprising for a porter.

Shocktop Pumpkin Wheat is pretty tasty... I was pretty surprised by it... It also smells just like pumpkin pie.Kraftster wrote:Church Brew Works Pumpkin Stout is very, very good.
Blue Moon Pumpkin Ale on the other hand has no pumpkin taste or smell, but it goes down very smooth.

Had Vortex II from Pisgah tonight. Russian Imperial Stout with a bit of chocolate. Overall, pretty good, but a little too thick.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Pale Ales to me - think Sierra Nevada, or any standard 'pale ale' - are boring. However, when you venture into American IPA and Double IPA territory it gets pretty awesome. Craft brewed IPAs have flooded the market and they work well all year, but the glut of product has some relatively lousy IPAs out there. Sure, there are still stalwarts like Bells Two Hearted, Bear Republic Racer Five, Green Flash West Coast IPA, Stone (I could go on). However, some of the double IPAs that are rare are absolutely amazing. Take the beer I quoted above (Pliny the Elder). It's a double IPA and very rare in PA. When sampled fresh it is about as good a beer experience (to me) as there is. I'd almost put it up there with the first time I sampled an aged bottle of Westvleteran 12.shmenguin wrote:i like some pretty gnarly beers, but i just don't get how people like pale ale. it's repellent to me. what am i missing?UVM2003 wrote:Drinking this:

That said, I know a lot of folks who I consider to have vast beer knowledge that don't have a palate for aggressively hopped beer. My tastes have shifted from an all-out hop assault to bourbon barrel aged stout. It really just is what you like, and I understand your lack of proclivity for pale ales. I myself don't have a fond taste for Belgian Pale Ales - too grassy/earthy. I will sample them but I don't get as blown away as others.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Octoberfest, Irish Red were my favorites out of the fall variety pack. Though I haven't tried the pumpkin one yet. The others were Boston Lager and the Smoked one. The Smoked one my roommates and I all agree we weren't fans of.Staggy wrote:Anybody try the Sam Adams fall variety pack yet? I plan on trying it out soon, it looks pretty good

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I know there are some in this thread that enjoy sour ales, so you've probably had this beer:
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/641/1745" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If you like sours, and haven't had this - it should be on your short list. I like sours quite a bit, but they're not my 'go to', and I was really amazed at this beer. It's faintly sweet, which really helps the sour finish. I will definitely be seeking out more.

Tried Sam Adams Cream Stout. Wasn't bad, but wasn't great, dunno what I was expecting.
