RIP Richard Cabela, the cofounder (along with his brother Jim) of the hunting, fishing, and outdoors store bearing the family name. Dick and Jim Cabela started out in 1961 selling fishing flies through the mail. The business expanded into a prosperous mail-order seller of hunting and fishing goods, and Cabela’s started opening brick-and-mortar stores in the 1980s. Cabela’s is now a $3.6 billion company with 50 stores (and more coming) in two dozen states plus Canada. Dick’s stake in the company is worth approximately $600 million. The cost of the first batch of fishing flies that started it all was just $45.

So, we had our dog put down today. We had gotten him last summer from a shelter where he came in as a stray. He was a very troubled dog. No way to know who did what to him but he was fear aggressive (had snapped at people he didn't know if they got too close, bit my Mom pretty good). Never did care much for the kids, never tried to bite but they definitely made him nervous, we could no longer risk the possibility that he'd bite one of them or worse, one of their friends.

He had behavior and obedience training but did not improve with the kids or the fear aggression.

Tried for months to find a home for him but were not able to. Rescues would not help since he had bitten people, and had recommended he be put down. He was great with Mrs. Pghskins and me but wouldn't let anyone else in to his circle.

I'm just devastated right now.

Im very sorry. :( Atleast you gave him a good home and a chance. Most wouldnt even do that...

Thanks guys. I think he could have been a great dog. He picked up his training like a champ. Just someone had messed with him too bad then who knows what happened when he was out on the streets.

That's too bad. My dog came off the street and he was obviously abused by someone.
That came out as fear, rather than aggression.
