That was one of the Muslim grape-juice-for-champagne races. Bahrain or Dubai.

dodint - Looks like I misspoke on the CTSCC television coverage. Despite nothing being listed before, during, and almost a full week following the race, they just posted it will be broadcast on FS1 on Feb 8 and 10am. So we've gone from an unnecessary week delay last year, to more than two full weeks this year. Hopefully they will at least televise the rest of the schedule, and this wasn't a one time thing.

I checked the IMSA website and under "Broadcast" details on the CTSCC schedule it was blank for every race, so I figured you were right. Thanks for the heads up, I'll fiddle with the DVR and make sure it catches it.

So far, the aesthetics of Formula One 2015 are a vast improvement over last year. All the cars look pretty good this year, ignoring the basket handle rear wings and the snow plow front wings.

I've always much preferred low-nose cars.

That's stupid. Both the region mismatch and the tagline.

Spent some time on my lunch break today watching YouTube clips from Jerez. The McLarens looked awful, sliding all over the place (the Honda must be terribly peaky in its power delivery). And the cars still sound of ass. I've read differing opinions as to the pace of Ferrari and Sauber, but both cars looked pretty solid from what I could see. If the Scuderia really has turned the worm, that will make me very mad as an Alonso fan.

Did they bring back the German engineers? If not, you have nothing to worry about.

CBS Sports Network is (kind of) bringing BTCC back to the US. It used to run on a several month delay on Speed over the winters. Now it'll be a 10 day delay and dissolved down into 1 hour, but that's better than nothing. Looking forward to it.

This has been all over my Facebook feed today. I gave up commenting on how stupid this looks after the first five or six outlets.

Frankly, I think a car like that would be all but un-raceable.

Wonder if the extra wide tires means no TC.

I think it looks way better than current cars. The teeny, narrow rear wings just look silly to me. Although Personally, I think I'd be more interested in seeing F1 cars go the other direction from that concept; namely, no wings at all but you could use TC to your heart's content.

Don't care. The focus of the next generation of F1 should be how to keep more than 8 teams solvent.

Cooler looking/sounding cars aren't going to make a big enough blip in income to bring Marussia, Caterham, or HRT back...or help Lotus pay its bills.

Buddy of mine looked at going to COTA this year but is completely priced out. Are the stands at COTA typically completely full or are they still charging a premium for the shiny new toy?

They've had the expected drop in attendance year-over-year, but nothing like what Indy experienced.

Looking at the COTA website, the prices don't seem that bad. Most expensive 3-day grandstand package is like $700. That's only about a third of what the most expensive grandstand seat costs for Silverstone.

$170 + $50 parking is the cheapest three day ticket per person. So $730 plus concessions for a family of 4 to enjoy the weekend. It's going to be hard to grow the F1 brand in the long term without hooking the kids. You can get a family into a NASCAR race for the cost of a single F1 ticket. It's fine for my wife and I but the sport isn't just for us.

My friend is being a little disingenuous. The reality for him is that the travel and lodging is too much, but he's using the ticket price as an easy way to dismiss the event.

The first four years I went to Long Beach, I'd get a 3-day GA ticket and garage/paddock passes and the total nut was only like $100.

Indy was something ridiculously cheap. Penthouse seats for $80 or something I think I remember.
