Flyers GM Paul Holmgren and Director of Player Personnel Chris Pryor here in Minny. Now that's a sign of something going on

Couturier is a stud, if only for the fact that he is Malkin's kryptonite. I want him gone from Philly

I think we as Pens fans tend to, perhaps understandably, overrate Couturier.

Tampa signs Nate Thompson to a 4-yr extension. Canucks among the teams that had him on their radar as a rental. Forget that now

And would add an enormous choke factor to the Flyers, while removing a guy who actually does well in the playoffs.Godric wrote:I'd be dancing in the streetsbhaw wrote:Briere + Couturier for HeatleyGaucho wrote:Kevin Kurz @KKurzCSN 16m

In typing that, I'm trying to figure out where Heatley ranks in the current top "star players who coincidentally play on consistently choking teams".
1. Joe Thornton
2. Roberto Luongo
3. Danny Heatley? he gets bumped up due to being part of the choking Sens AND the choking Sharks.

Somehow, some way, it would work out cap-wise even if they did Heatley for Briere straight up.bhaw wrote:Briere + Couturier for HeatleyGaucho wrote:Kevin Kurz @KKurzCSN 16m

In what sense? He's a 20 year old prototypical defensive center with an offensive upside. His team is playing terribly this year, but can't blame him for that.Gaucho wrote:I think we as Pens fans tend to, perhaps understandably, overrate Couturier.

- Talk that Mark Howe (a Flyers scout) is also in attendance in Minnesota today. Sounds like a full house. Could be just taking in an NHL game before the WCHA Finals tonight in the same building a couple hours after the game.
- Guy Boucher <3's Textbook Thompson
- Couturier - Jordan Staal/Pete Mahovlich mold and upside. Should end up being a very good 2nd line center in this league.

I actually see Philly and San Jose being good dance partners. Scouting Dan Boyle? but oh wouldn't it be great if Thornton went to Philly? Wow, that'd be fantastic.

Re: Around the League: Transactions
Hmm
Heatley comes off the books same offseason Giroux and Schenn come up for RFA and Brierre doesn't come off till year after.
Either way, Brierre is going to have to be moved/bought out at some point. Funny thing is, Minnesota would probably buy him out too just because they don't have a ton of money to throw around cap wise either moving forward.

Yzerman expected too much out of that team IMO. Soft team, weak defense, poor goal tending....Beveridge wrote:Le Chiffre Boucher fired in Tampa.

...and 9 rookies on the NHL roster at this point. Yzerman may have done Boucher a favor by firing him. It's massive rebuild time in Tampa.KG wrote:Yzerman expected too much out of that team IMO. Soft team, weak defense, poor goal tending....Beveridge wrote:Le Chiffre Boucher fired in Tampa.

They don't have much to sell unless they get rid of the big pieces of MSL and Vinny. It looks like a mess.Kovy27 wrote:Operation: Lightning Fire Sale is in effect.

I thought the Lightning were rebuilding whenever they drafted Hedman and Stamkos

I'm assuming they will attempt to trade MSL and buyout VL.joopen wrote:They don't have much to sell unless they get rid of the big pieces of MSL and Vinny. It looks like a mess.Kovy27 wrote:Operation: Lightning Fire Sale is in effect.

Re: Around the League: Transactions
I don't think so. I think they have a good base for the roster and I think Yzerman has done a good job. There are some holes and some weak points...he's actively addressing them (obviously winning Sustr is viewed as "good" at this point). VL4 is beloved by Tampa Bay and is huge in the community. If he gets bought out, you might as well just move the team, he's the cornerstone of that franchise even if MSL is a better player.
I think they just need a coach that isn't so technically and defensively demanding. Let the offense loose a little bit and I think you'll see some results. Yzerman has a pretty good thing going there. I think, with a good coaching hire, between this deadline and the offseason, he can make a pretty formidable roster. And he's got goaltending help on the way with Vasilevski if Lindback doesn't turn out, which we won't know for a little bit still...he's got potential...get a new goalie coach too while you're shuffling the deck...
I don't think we see any rash moves in Tampa Bay, to be honest. The organization is generally pleased with the direction they're heading. They just need a new voice with different ideas...
