The NHL is ridiculous.
You know what shocks me...where the **** is the respect for each other? There is 0 respect for any player in the league. KEEP THE ELBOWS DOWN AND DELIVER CLEAN HITS. Is it that hard?
Why does it shock you? There's never been respect in the NHL.

Because you would think with concussions around like mad, players would not elbow a player in the jaw when the puck is no where near him. WTF....

But no one actually cares, they just want to make it seem like they care to make members of the the public feel better.

Unfortunately, I believe that's true.

Thank God that Cooke was nailed to the cross and everyone else's sins are forgiven.

Holy hell, that's a terrible hit. 5 games minimum. 10 is more appropriate.

frankenstein's monster was lynched last spring. the angry mobs wore themselves out and there was no one left for the league to pander to afterwards.

the cooke suspension was a big joke all along. it was only done to shut people up. and it worked.

Sedin put a shoulder into Keith's chin a couple of minutes before this. It was NOT a good hit-- the head was targeted and the hit was late IMHO. I don't think a penalty was called. Unfortunately there's no video of it that I could find, but they showed it on NBCSports' NHL post-game show.

It doesn't excuse the retalitory elbow, but it puts it into context. Both hits were bad and I think both players should get 2 games each, but since Sedin wasn't able to return I doubt it'll be anything like that. My Guess: Keith gets 3 and Sedin doesn't get suspended at all.

If it was retaliatory, it deserves a longer suspension. Campbell (who I hated) took that into account with suspensions. If a player went out and did something like this right after he was hit, they got a longer suspension because it showed even more intent to injure.

Keith won't get any longer than three games, mark my words. Absolutely pathetic they called that a 2 minute penalty, regardless of what Sedin did or didn't do prior.

what aspect of sedin's hit was illegal? shoulder's to the head are still fine, and it wasn't late enough to penalize. if everyone, including the players, wants shoulder-to-head to be ok, they can't act like babies when they get clocked. i think it should be illegal next year, but you can't change the rules as you go.

as for keith, it's just going to be another reminder of how stupid the length of the cooke suspension was. he'll get 1-3 games. sure, he has no history, but this should still be punished severely.

Yea, the longer we go on. The Cooke suspension was nothing more than "this is what you get for speaking out Mario."

disagree. it was giving the GM's, players, media and fans the pariah they were desperately craving. he was the embodiment of all the "disrespect" issues from last year. the NHL knew that throwing the book at him would get them out from underneath the microscope for a while.

it had nothing to do with mario's comments, imo

I didn't have a problem with Cooke's suspension, it's the feckless follow through that the league has shown for similar incidents since then.

I had a huge problem with the cooke suspension as it was obvious the league wasn't going to follow through with that standard.

I think it had to do with him not getting punishment for the savard hit.

Agreed, with bolded: Suck it up. Hitting isn't illegal.

Disagreed with underlined; see* The Sean Avery Rule.

That would be all well and good Shmenguin if the NHL continued with any kind of semblance of respect to purely that suspension. They've done nothing since then to really solidify any reason to consider them solving the discipline and respect between player issue.

that's because their plan worked perfectly. once cooke got suspended, the masses didn't care anymore about player safety. everyone wrote their big cooke story and then moved on to the playoffs - where more interesting things were happening.

There is no logical way this hit can get less than 5 games. With that said, I'm guess it will get 3

If Cooke's suspension was really about the Savard hit, then where was richards' 10+ game retroactive suspension for the booth hit?

It was about making an example out of someone, and once they acknowledged Cooke was public enemy #1, it was simply a matter of waiting for ANY screw up.
