Official GDT: Pens vs Canes 12/21/23

I need someone smarter than me to explain what Graves is doing and why it’s not completely wrong. Canes coming in the zone, the guy closer to him peels to the boards without the puck and we have guys coming back but he sticks with him creating a huge hole in the slot that we were lucky the puck went out of play instead of being put in empty space where a 3rd Cane would has been driving.

He does this bizarre things almost every shift. Someone is either telling him to do these things, is telling him to stop and he won’t listen or aren’t trying at all to correct his horrible instincts.

Decent defensive effort for the Pens.Canes didn't get too many good looks.
Sid was a force that entire period.Outstanding defensively and a strong gritty goal.17 Years in this league and still can do it all.
Malkin with another no show game so far.Penalty was a weak call but his play was weaker.
Pens still need to be careful with the long stretch passes.
Rakell is beyond due,He's getting a Goal tonight. Maybe,LOL.

I think we're almost at the point where Graves needs to be sheltered on the 3rd pairing, or scratched completely, until he figures out how to remove his head from his rear.

Graves with a terrible read leads to an open shot that fortunately missed the net.

Agree on the needing to get him off the top 2 D-Man Pairings.He is s liability out there.

I was going to give Graves some benefit of doubt that our coaches are bad and won’t get him out of this but looking at his history he played for 3 different QMJHL organizations and his on his 4th NHL team. This just seems like a huge miss by Dubas and will be a bigger problem than Jack Johnson was for cap and could end up staying in the lineup because of how much he makes.

I’ve been working with my son’s mites team on angling drills a lot lately. Watching Graves take horrible angles to the puck is really showing up to me tonight.

Well, first unit, second unit….both suck. It’s like they are always just freewheeling out there, they look like they don’t even try to make a pass that will hit their man. No attention to detail. Granted Crosby and Jake had decent opportunities, it remains stale and just wild.
