Re: Doc Emerick
I like Doc and Edzo. I think they are a good combination.
Steve Levy was awesome back in the day.
I hated Gary Thorne and my hate has intensified from the NHL series. He was terrible then, and terrible now.
Jim Hughson is probably the best IMO.
Bob Cole is terrible.

Doc called it well last night.
I'm a Hughson guy, as long as the Canucks aren't involved.
Cole was great, but he has lost the plot.

It's the end of May, so you know the Canucks won't be involved. lolShakes wrote:Doc called it well last night.

Same. He's extremely over rated. He always sounded like a senile old man when he called the game. She'sTheFastest wrote:Yeah, I don't understand the love for Gary Thorne. He was not very good.shmenguin wrote:-i like doc

I'd broaden that to "any Canadian team". He definitely seems to favor them a little (though he works for HNIC/CBC so I don't really expect anything different).Shakes wrote:Doc called it well last night.

Re: Doc Emerick
i'd like emerick more if HE COULD control tHE VOLUME OF HIS voice. save the screaming for when something is actually happening. his goal calls are either home runs or a swing-and-a-miss-and-trip-over-my-own-feet-and-break-my-nose-on-home-plate.

Re: Doc Emerick
I think Doc is my 2nd favorite play by play guy now after Mike Lange. I can understand people who don't like his sometimes shrill tones and thesarus diving descriptions, but you do get a feel for the frantic pacing of the game from him. Hockey HAS to be the highest degree of difficulty to do play by play of the 4 major sports.
my favorite doc call was Crosbys rookie year against the flyers in OT (the same game where Hatcher did some unrequested dental work on 87) "crosby in all alone, the game on his stick, SCOOORESSS!!!" simple yet beautiful.

Re: Doc Emerick
The funny thing about Thorne is that for the NHL series for Wii/Xbox/PS3 he recorded the players' names wrong. He doesn't pronounce Malkin correctly.
I guess the voice director either didn't know or was too afraid to correct him.

Re: Doc Emerick
I assumed that it was all recorded before Malkin was in the league, so they just blended a couple of other sound clips to make his name and that was the best they could do. I didn't realize that any of those things were recorded within the last decade.

Re: Doc Emerick
He does, but it doesn't bother with the other Canadian teams. E.g., he was outstanding in the Tor-Bos series even though he was clearly a "homer." He wasn't over the top like he can be in Canuck games.MRandall25 wrote:I'd broaden that to "any Canadian team". I'd take Doc on any game in any sport. He makes the games even more exciting. I'd like to know what everyday occurrences people would like Doc to describe. One of my favorites would be an ATM transaction.

There is a skit one of the local radio stations played (I think DVE) of Doc calling a prom in the hood.Orlando Penguin wrote:I'd take Doc on any game in any sport. Yea it's Randy from the morning show. They have a series of those skits. The best is Doc reading 50 Shades of Grey.llipgh2 wrote:There is a skit one of the local radio stations played (I think DVE) of Doc calling a prom in the hood.Orlando Penguin wrote:I'd take Doc on any game in any sport.
