The Pens couldn’t take Chychrun’s salary unless more money went out. McGinn clearing waivers made that necessary even if sent down. One can assume that Arizona did not want to take on or retain salary unless the Pens further made it worth their while, which meant more draft picks.

Dumoulin shouldn't be in this teams plans beyond this season. Trading him would have cleared the necessary space for Chychrun

Hey, I believed you. I mean, he could have made more than Matthews.

On a serious note, the Penguins have 3 generational players and combined allowed the Penguins to have salary for not only all 3 but a 4th or 5th really top end player during the last 15 years, also makes it more frustrating when they fail. Can’t say the same thing about Edmonton, Toronto, Boston.
