Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I agree on the Sam Adams complaints. I'm not sure if I've just gotten used to higher quality beer, but previously I thought Sam Adams was pretty good for a big brewery and relatively inexpensive when compared to microbrews. Now, it seems like the prices are going up and the quality is going down. It's really not much cheaper to get a sixer of whatever Sam Adam's seasonal than it is to get a sixer of something that's actually good.

Yeah, around here a six of Sam Adams is the same price as most of the craft brews.

Agree on the Sam Adams prices. I still really like a couple of their beers, but it's not worth the price.

Unless your getting beer from silly chain restaurant, there's always going to be better, cheaper options than Sam Adams. I've heard the brewery is a cool experience though, if I'm ever up in Boston I'll make it a point to check that out.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
We went to the brewery, and (our poor planning) there was already a three hour queue. Since the location is not exactly convenient to downtown (you have to take the T), we just said screw it and decided to just check out the front/store area. The nice thing is, they were having a beer testing that weekend. The one we tasted and voted on ended up being their Noble Pils.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
The Sam Adams brewery in Boston is pretty much only for recipe testing and small batches of their most exclusive beers. Sam Adams in the past contracted out the vast majority of its brewing. Pittsburgh Brewing Company produced Sam Adams for a while, and so have breweries like FX Matt, Strohs, and Blitz-Weinhard. In the last five years or so, Sam Adams purchased several breweries and now produces the majority of its beer at breweries it owns. I don’t drink Sam Adams so I can’t comment on any decrease in quality, but it’s interesting if it has gone down. It would mean that SA is worse at brewing its own beers than other companies were.

Bartender, I'd like to buy this thread a beer!!!JoseCuervo wrote:Happy national IPA day to the beer thread!
Sam Adams used to be better in the beginning. It's entirely possible that it has slipped a notch or two in the microbrew category or the competition has really raised the stakes. Between Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada, both distributed nationally I believe, Sierra Nevada wins in all categories.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Had some Genny and Genny Cream Ale recently. The former was a bit harsh tasting ala PBR but the latter was good. Not a bad $14/30 pack deal.
Also, had some Chesterfield Ale, and while good, was a bit too "spicy" for more than a few.

Sierra Nevada has definitely held up over the years. Sam Adams may have tried to expand too much. They have so many different varieties now. When I first started drinking, Sam Adams lager was one of my go-tos, and I think the lager is still okay.BigMcK wrote:Bartender, I'd like to buy this thread a beer!!!JoseCuervo wrote:Happy national IPA day to the beer thread!

The Cherry Wheat is good.... but there are so many other beers I'd rather drink. I wouldn't turn one down if offered, but I would never go out of my way to buy it.

I always thought I hated Saisons, but then I had a Unibrou one and thought it was awesome. So I trusted this Weyerbacher one, it was solid.

Summer of Cans continues; Sly Fox Pikeland Pils and 21st Black IPA. I would recommend either.
Recommendations on some wider selections of craft in cans? My normal spots have the same old same...
