I half expect Martin to pull a Robert Jordan on us anyway.

Been watching the marathon on and off all weekend.

Only means I have to watch the Red Wedding again. Oof.

I don't know, if he cared one way or the other maybe he would really see the show as the locomotive pushing him to finish the series--his side projects indicate he's fine with side stepping the train and letting it take his work to completion. I think Martin will be heavily involved in the final season anyway, so it's not like it won't be his vision. I trust the writers to squeeze a great story out of him in the end.
I agree. I think Martin probably knew all along that this was a possibility. If he has given over the final story-lines to the writers, then he knows they will move further without him finishing the books. I actually don't mind if the series finishes before Martin. This way if he never finishes his books, we at least have an ending. I will watch and read the books no matter what order they come in.

I don't think his side projects indicate that at all. They just show that he doesn't give a crap about other people's schedules. I think you guys are underestimating the fact that the guy OWNS the story - and it's basically his life's work. His opus. No way does he let someone else finish it. Even if he gets the honor of being an executive producer or whatever. He likes the show, but he doesn't see it as an equivalent to the books like other people do.

All the stuff coming from him seems a little scatterbrained and naive. All the stuff coming from the HBO guys seems a little sketchy and non-committal. I haven't seen the same clues that everyone else has, apparently.

But he doesn't. I don't know the details of the contract, but I can't imagine HBO would have bought the rights to only the written novels. If they had, Martin would have them over a barrel and could demand crazy $$$ for the future installments. HBO almost certainly bought the rights to the entire story and as such, can do whatever they want with them. If they decide to have Joffrey marry Dany and fly away on a dragon at the end of the series, they could do just that. Once a writer sells the rights, he has almost no say so. That's why most Stephen King adaptations have major changes from the books.

Didn't HBO Go go down for the True Detective finale too? I don't think they have the resources to keep up with demand.

Loved every bit of the episode.

The guy playing The Red Viper is a badass. Didn't know what to expect at first sight.

The new Daario... he's different man. I like the old actor better. He had that mysterious intent about him that book Daario had, and this new guy doesn't have it.

I'm happy they didn't abandon the Ser Dantos angle like I thought they were doing.

Though the show and book would have been much better if Brienne had just been eaten by that damn bear.

Same thing here. I said "that's it?"

Very good episode.

Love the Hound and Arya scene at the end.

She's beginning that dark turn.

so true haha. Woulda saved a few hours of my life...ugh those chapters.

That episode flew by...kind of thought the Hound chasing after Arya was kind of funny/out of character. Really like that they put the Red Viper in the forefront of this season...will make the last few episodes especially dramatic.
Spoiler:
can see a lot of fans who like Oberyn ending up very sad in a few months.
